I have the most awkward body to dress

Very long back (has been commented on by various physios and the framebuilder who built my bike) - nothing ever tucks in. Most tops barely reach my middle. I have to seek out long line T shirts, and tunics to wear as work shirts, but a lot of knitwear just ends up looking like a woolly bra. It also means that the waists on dresses are always in the wrong place.

Huge calf muscles. Can’t get anything “skinny” over my lower legs, yet that is most of the choice on the high street.

Size 9 feet gives limited options outside if sports shoes and Clark’s.

I rotate the same pair of trousers in 5 colours - Boden Richmond- a size too big, to get them over my calves, but am constantly hooking them up, a handful of long length T shirts and tops and the same jeans (Sainsbury’s girlfriend) in 3 colours. Clark’s brogues.

I work on building sites, so dresses are not really an option for work, as I need to put on wellies and go and go and look at stuff often. The Boden trousers are great for going under wellies.

I’m so bored of my clothes but I can’t find anything to fit!!!

Onesie?

lilgreen · 16/02/2020 12:47

Seriously though, can you not get an overall that you put on over your dress etc to visit sites?

Men's jeans. I'm currently wearing a pair of river island men's skinny jeans. I also have big calves compared to the rest of me. The waist is not much different to women's jeans, I don't know why.

Whilst I agree that LTS blouses etc are terrible quality I have vests and T-shirts which are 8 years old and still perfect despite being used for breast feeding and weight gain and weight loss. The cotton stretch camis are the ones I wear the most.

GreyishDays · 16/02/2020 14:40

For the top half, I often wear a long coloured vest under a bit long enough top. It’s a bit Trinny circa 1998 but you gotta do what you gotta do.

*not long enough top

Have you tried pilates to reduce your calves?

Lucked · 16/02/2020 14:50

I have Richmond trousers but they are not my loosest work trousers so if they don’t fit both at the waist and calf ditch them and wear bootcut or wide leg 🤷‍♀️. Next has bootcut work trousers in their tall range and then just fold them into the wellies. You could use bicycle trousers clips (which no one will see) to stop them moving.

Buy clothes which fit over the biggest part of you then get them tailored to fit the rest. Finding a good and reasonably priced tailor is the hardest part, some independent dry cleaners are good for this or if you have the time find a course which will teach you to do this yourself

I have mahoosive calves and I wear wide legged yoga pants as my main trouser. If worn with a tidy too and non trainer footwear they just look like ordinary trousers. I like Peacocks one and they're about a 33 inside leg.

damnthatanxiety · 16/02/2020 16:23

No idea where you should look for trousers as you will only know when you try them on. Have you looked at Uniqlo? They often have a little stretch and are generally good quality and inexpensive. Why not get your Boden tousers tailored to fit at the waist?

GooodMythicalMorning · 16/02/2020 16:29

If you have a shoezone near you they are quite good for bigger shoes. Next used to be but you had to order them into the shop and they were usually quite pricey but then again quite good quality. Don't know whay they're like these days though.
