Botox!!

I'm 40 in a couple of months, I've had three babies in five years, gained and lost a lot of weight each time and pretty much haven't had a full nights sleep since 2015. I look wrecked.

The main thing that bothers me though, is the 'number 11' wrinkles between my eyes. They make me look permanently grumpy and I hate them.

I'm so not the 'kind of person' to get Botox though, I've never even had a spray tan or a wax or anything! But I'm seriously considering it.

Can anyone please give me their success (or not) stories of Botox for these types of wrinkles? And photos if you have them!!

A lot of exclamation marks there, sorry... 😳

I've found Botox has made a massive difference to those frown lines. I'm almost 40 too (and similarly had two kids just over a year apart) and it really took its toll.
I have a bit of Botox in my frown lines and a tiny bit to lift the brows and find I don't need any other areas done. I look awake (even when shattered!)
I would say find a decent practitioner - a nurse prescriber or dr.

Its brilliant if done well and you'll wonder why you didn't have it done sooner

userxx · 15/02/2020 16:26

Depends how deep the 11's are, you'd probably be better with filler.

I have Botox about 3 times a year on my forehead and glabella. When I first went to the dermatologist for Botox, I only got my forehead injected with a conservative number of units. And I was happy with that -- more like thrilled to have a smooth forehead again, actually.

I didn't realize how expressive my face was, and not always in a pleasant way. I had zero poker face. Socially this is a detriment. The Botox made me aware of this.

The second dermatologist I saw suggested injecting my glabella as well. Still not grasping the effect my strong facial muscles were having, I didn't really see the need. But I acquiesced. And now I have a really pleasant expression. It makes work and socialising much nicer. No long am I asked if I am angry when I am mere concentrating or thinking. If I find something distasteful, I can now mask it easily.

And I am told that by paralysing the muscles, it will prevent the deepening of wrinkles and delay the development of others.

And I laughed the first time I got Botox and every subsequent time because it really is so unlike me. If done correctly, your face will still move. You will just look rested.

I don't have photos but the ones I took at the derm's office look like an glabella before and after photos online.

Following with interest. I have a single deep crevice between my eyebrows.
I'm very tempted too, but put off by all the people who have 'obviously' had botox/fillers etc, I think it looks awful. I just want rid of this deep line.

mistermagpie · 15/02/2020 17:26

Yes that's exactly it, I have a very expressive face. When I used to act in my younger days this was a good thing but now, not so much.

They are not super deep I suppose but you can definitely see them when my face is at rest. I wouldn't want fillers, I read in another thread (the lip filler one) that having that above the eyes is risky.

I just don't want that TOWIE plastic look I suppose, and would rather everyone couldn't tell!

I'm 37 and had Botox three times. I had pretty pronounced horizontal lines above my nose/between my brows and (noticeable to me) lines on my forehead.

I will continue having Botox for as long as I possibly can it's like magic. I get 2 areas (above and between eyebrows) and it just looks like I'm very well rested. I don't have a tight, shiny forehead, my eyebrows can still move although not as much as before and unless I've told people they don't know I've had it done.

The lines that annoyed me are gone and aren't noticeable at all.

Weekday28 · 15/02/2020 17:44

I'm seriously thinking about it too. I have a deep line on my forehead and when I wake up in the morning have the '11's' but in red Mark's so I know they are coming . I'm only 28. It just seems so vain but also I hate the way my face looks.

mistermagpie · 15/02/2020 19:36

I'm not too fussed about it being vain, I'm very un-vain in lots of ways so that's ok. And it's not like I think I'm hot stuff or anything, far from it.

But it feels a bit... silly? I've got three very young children and should probably have better things to think about than my wrinkles, but every time I catch sight of myself in a mirror I just think 'ugh'. Photos are even worse!

I’ve had it done. I have small children and am not at all glam but I felt like the years and some awful experiences had taken their toll. It’s great - I have the 11s and the forehead done but very lightly so I can still move my face I just can’t scowl. It’s taken 5 yrs off me and weirdly has made me feel happier as I can’t go around looking grumpy!

Stroller15 · 15/02/2020 20:06

I'm 35 and had my first Botox done last year. absolutely love it. Only had my '11' frown lines done and don't look frozen at all. In fact, I have to tell people I had Botox, they just say I look happy. Its even making a difference to the dreaded networking events as before, I would frown extremely angrily if I was just listening. Do find someone reputable though!

TheWordmeister · 15/02/2020 20:13

I hate my 11s too - makes me look permanently cross.

I had botox last Friday and they are gone as are the lines on my forehead.

The other good thing is that I get no headaches.

mistermagpie · 15/02/2020 21:33

Oh this is all quite positive!

TheWord can you tell me - was it painful? And what did you look like straight after? If I walked down the street would everyone know? And roughly what did you pay if you don't mind saying?

Luckily I know where I would get it done, there is a really well reviewed and experience dentist at my practice who does it, so I feel reasonably confident about that.

I don't want to look glamorous or 'done', just not knackered and cross all the time, when I am actually really happy (and knackered).

It's amazing when done well. I lost weight, woke up one day and just saw these wrinkles zigzagging down the side of my eyes when I smiled. Sod that. Bishbosh with the Botox and voila - lovely smoothness. I'm Middle Aged, not vain, don't wear make up, don't have nails done - generally abit slobby but will definitely make Botox part of my life. It does not hurt at all.

TheWordmeister · 15/02/2020 23:59

It doesn’t hurt, you barely feel it. You might have pin prick dots of blood which you can wipe off within a few minutes - no lumps form.

I pay £300 for 3 areas - glabella, forehead and under eye. I counted the number of injections for my friend who’s about to go - it was 18. I have it done by my dentist.
