Denim jackets

I have recently bought a light blue denim jacket, mainly to wear with dresses In The spring. Dd13 has just informed me it’s too young for me and that denim jackets aren’t really ‘in’ I’m 43.

Is this a thing are denim jackets only for young people? And are they out of fashion?

Oh of course, it’s very important for teenagers/young cool things to break away and form their own identities, and fashion is a great tool for that. However they can’t co-opt all our clothes that we’ve been wearing for decades, change them ever so slightly and then tell us we can’t wear them!

Anyway, this is a huge subject with lots of variables (some people can’t wear just about anything and make it work, lots of people can’t, and yes age comes into it a little bit but not in the way one might think) but @Fladadafada what do you think? Are you really too old for a denim jacket? Or would you just quite like to wear one? And, when your 13 year old says they’re not ‘in’ don’t you think she’s saying that from her perspective? Are you really going to base your sense of style on what your young teen and her friends think is in?

Denim jackets are a staple.
Cannot imagine getting rid of mine.
I wear with summery skirts and dresses.
Also wear them with casual (non demin) trousers.

Some people say you should put leather jackets with summer dresses but if I'm wearing a summer dress then it's normally going to be hot and leather is too thick for hot weather. I know the aim is to 'toughen up' the summer dress but I keep my leather jackets for the winter and colder days in autumn and spring.

Denim jackets are definitely still in fashion.

Mine is distressed looking, £14 from Primark last year.
My sister has one with puffed sleeves from River Island that is still available.

Sounds like your daughter wanted it.Nothing to do with your age.

Sigh, *some people can wear just about anything and make it work and others can’t. However if you like it and want to wear it, do so!

Actually I'm confused now. Normally when a teenager tells you something is 'too young', what they mean is 'too fashionable for you, Mum'. So If your daughter is saying they're not high fashion at the moment, as, I think Bluntness is suggesting, then why is she also worried about it being too young for you?

(And why am I spending my Saturday trying to follow the thinking of a 13 year old?)

Denim is really big this year according to the fashion shows. Maybe invest in a pair of denim bermuda shorts (apparently super on-trend), then maybe she'll change her mind about the good ol' jacket
