I am going to a corporate event. Think lawyer / accountant going to a restaurant / pub / bar event in London in a few weeks. It’s a day conference and then a dinner.

The conference is 1-5:30
Networking and drinks 5:30-6:30
Dinner 6:30

So I’m not sure I’ll have time to change in between (I assumed there’d be a gap but doesn’t look like it)

I’m about a size 10 with v big boobs and I’m 5’4 ish. I am about a stone and a size bigger than usual so don’t feel comfortable in anything too fitted but shift / straight type dresses suit me more than anything floaty. Also a bit above the knee tends to look better on me than knee length or longer.

A black dress would obviously work but I wouldn’t mind a nice green or blue maybe as long as it would work for day and night.

Budget is flexible. If it’s a nice dress I’d wear again then I don’t mind paying more.

Hopefully I can get away with shoes and bag I have - black, nude, silver, gold, hot pink... maybe not for day though..,

Please help!

This, with a jacket over during the day? Changing your shoes would change the look from day the evening.

MoltonSilver · 14/02/2020 09:26

It also comes in a navy crepe fabric www.whistles.com/women/sale/dresses/148248.html

Yes I like that. Might see if I they have in my local store so I can try it on

I wouldn’t mind a colour but not keen on the crepe

If I go to store I can have a look though

That Whistles dress is great, you can change earrings, bag, hair up or down, shoes, stronger lipstick and will look different for evening.

GallopingGreen · 14/02/2020 09:35

I had this issue last week! Also corporate day event followed immediately by fancy drinks and dinner. I decided to go for my sharpest trouser suit with pointy low heels and a cream silk blouse. Just fixed up my hair and added red lipstick for the evening. Easy.
And I always think if the men can wear a trouser suit- so can I.

AnneKipanki · 14/02/2020 09:36

Exactly , what Pollo says . Bling earrings or brooch in handbag .. different lippy ...sorted.

InterestedinOthersViews · 14/02/2020 09:37

I like a trouser suit too so not ruling that out!

Would need a new one though

As I mentioned I am bigger (since having a baby) so I’m not really in my pre-preg work clothes which is why I need to buy something rather than wear something I’ve got

Hobbs, Jigsaw, Jaeger, Reiss, Whistles. All are really good for work/event clothing.

Have a look at kin in john lewis. I have 2 dresses from there that I have had for years and they are suitable for what you are describing.
One is a pencil skirt bottom with a wrap around blouse bit at the top so looser. They are usually lined too so I find that helps with lumps and bumps.
The other is very similar but looser. The skirt isn't fitted. They are fairly plain but classic and you could wear a blazer in the day and pop some jewelry or a scarf on later on.

Ninkanink · 15/02/2020 11:40

Ohhh I have a lovely top from Kin. Shame I can no longer recommend JL as I am boycotting.

lancashirebornandbred · 15/02/2020 11:49

Why the boycott of John Lewis Ninkanink?

Ninkanink · 15/02/2020 12:04

Don’t want to politicise S&B but it’s to do with lack of respect for women’s and girls’ rights and protections, and complete disregard for their vulnerable female customers’ dignity. They have treated women with utter contempt, so I took my business elsewhere. Same holds for M&S.

There is more detail as to why in the Mumsnet feminism section.

lancashirebornandbred · 15/02/2020 13:39

Thanks, will check there

BunnytheBee · 16/02/2020 08:42

Thanks I will look at Kin
