I’m 50 so would this look suit me?

I saw a beautiful younger mum wearing a pair of cropped straight leg jeans the other day together with flat lace up black boots, a white t-shirt and a jacket. She was tall and slim and looked effortlessly casual and amazing.

I’m 50 years old, 5’3” and a size 12. Would I be able to get away with this look or is it just wishful thinking?

I'm late 50s and love that look, go for it.

@floisme was being funny. And basically she was telling you not to worry about age and appropriate wear!

I am 53 and look in the mirror and decide if I look nice - that is enough for me

I wear ankle grazer and cropped jeans all the time - usually with trainers or high tops though.
I have these black lace up boots (which I love) that I usually wear with dresses, skirts, skinny jeans or my checked trousers. Not tried with my cropped jeans yet so you've inspired me to give it a try OP.

And I agree age has nothing to do with it. Cropped jeans can look good on anyone depending on the cut of the jean. I don't really suit the high waist jeans so go for a mid rise.

I agree with you @Sooverthemill! I was just saying that personally I don't like the cropped look on me as I feel it cuts off my leg in the worst place and is unflattering so I stick to ankle grazer or full length. Definitely the OP needs to try on various lengths and styles and decide based on how she feels in them, rather than her age, which is really irrelevant.

Floisme Apologies for being so sensitive. I can’t change my age or height. I should probably work on my size but I do like my food and am fit and healthy otherwise.

I agree with everyone saying age has nothing to do with it. I’ve ordered a pair of boots as that’s the part of the outfit I loved the most and will see what items in my wardrobe I can wear them with.

If you are fit and healthy why not just accept that you are fine as you are.
Dress in a way that makes you feel good.

50 isn't that old - think Jennifer Aniston, Jennifer Lopez, Catherine Zeta-Jones, Kylie Minogue, Tess Daly, Jude Law, Dominic West and others.

Ihatemyseleffordoingthis · 13/02/2020 19:03

mmm I think everyone should wear whatever they want
But I do think there are some hard truths. Some people are just effortlessly stylish. Posture and slimness helps but it often has very little to do with what you actually wear.

I'm 50 now and think 45 - 60 is a tricky age and actually you can look dowdy in things that a younger or much older person would look fab in.

Floisme · 13/02/2020 19:04

No worries op, it wasn't my best judged comment.

Good luck with the boots.

I'm 49 and 5'2" and I never wear heels. Really annoys me that just because I'm 'short' (very much an English perspective, I'm average height for my own country and would be tall in others) people think I should wear heels.

So yes OP, buy your flat shoes and enjoy wearing them. Boots, ankle skimmer straight jeans, tshirt and jacket is pretty standard and no-one will think you look tooshort. TBH you need short trousers to show off the boots.
