Mulberry Portobello Bag, Thoughts?

I haven't bought a Mulberry bag in ten years. Quality has gone down and prices continue to rise. Just seen the Portobello I love it, 100% sustainable, made in England and net profits go to The Woodland Trust. Hopefully the quality is good.

Anyone else considering buying it?

Luxurious handbags are my guilty pleasure, but I haven’t bought a Mulberry since 2008 when I bought a Mabel to celebrate a watershed promotion. As you say, the quality for the price is atrocious and they also suddenly went OTT with the hardware and that ghastly bling logo the size of a satellite dish.

I’m intrigued by the Portobello and love the sustainability story but suspect it’s PR fluff. The shape of the bag itself is peculiar and not practical, but perhaps it’s one of those you need to see in motion, like the Celine Cabas Phantom which is my current crush.

I still remember the Mabel fondly. It was the most practical bag ever: slouchy but multiple pockets and somehow able to hold A4 documents for work whilst not being too big to use casually at weekends. I still have my Bayswater but it’s much too corporate for most company dress codes these days, and damned heavy.

i've been a huge mulberry fan for 20+ years but have only been able to venture into the brand 5 or so years ago when i started having more disposable income. i have a new small bayswater, an Abbey bag and a couple of pouches.

i like the ethic behind it and its certainly bold. its attractive but not one i'd consider looking at.

my opinion is that i dont think it looks like it has a secure closure and also, yes its very minimal but i feel it looks quite cumbersome as in a lot of leather but not a great deal of actual holding space. i haven't seen it in real life though.

if you like it, go ahead! i think mulberry is seen as bland and expensive compared to flashier gucci or ysl.

personally i still love the aesthetics and every era has brought in mulberry.

I love the sustainability angle but that bag is awful, why would anyone want an expensive handbag modelled on a plastic bag? I could be too old and past it to appreciate the genius!

Hoping they make one of their classics 100% sustainable!

It's completely unlined, with no pockets, no enclosed spaces at all. No closure of any kind.

So for me it's good for carrying a load of bread Confused (like a plastic bag)

But not purse, phone, IPad etc

and would you carry a loaf or food shopping in a £795 bag? Seems a bit crazy as a marketing hook to me!

I really like the design. Lack of pockets don't bother me as I have handbag liners. Lots of Mulberry bags are unlined at least the older styles. Would have to see it in a shop before I make a decision.

That is very nice. I love my Mulberry bags, only the older styles for me. Bayswater, Ledbury, Roxanne, large Antony, Emmy - all in Oak and a purple Mabel. Would like a Lily.

I don't mind it unlined as I have some of the older styles but I don't have any that are unlined AND don't have a zip or a closure.

Totally fine to keep everything in a separate zipped handbag liner but to then not have the bag zipped or poppered shut just means someone can easily reach in and grab your stuff.
