Shampoo and conditioner

Morning all!
A boring thread I know but just wondering what shampoo and conditioner everyone uses and if you use an all in one or separates? I normally buy whatever’s on offer and do a hair mask a couple of times a month. I ask for birthday and Christmas for body shop banana shampoo, conditioner and a tub of the hair mask, it’s gorgeous!

I like the boots coconut one which is under £1.

Also buy alberto and the aldi aussie one.

Sometimes i buy conditioner to match one of them

Vosene followed by head and shoulder argan conditioner. My hair has never been better.

Lojoh · 14/02/2020 09:01

OGX Biotin right now but I hate the smell and am just trudging through it.

Never found a conditioner that works for me. I rub an oil through the ends instead - Aussie Miracle Oil at the moment.

LUSH Daddyo shampoo and LUSH Agas conditioner. Trying to go sulphate free and to tone as I've just got blonde highlights. Also have the banana conditioner from your first post and love it.

I only use shampoo to wash out the dye when my hair is coloured. Otherwise I only use silicone-free conditioner (I follow the Curly Girl method). I use Superdrug fruity cherry and almond one for cowashing and I leave in Garnier Ultimate Blends Almond Crush.

I find my hair keeps best with regular changes of brand. Hence as one runs out, l replace it with something different.

TheReef · 14/02/2020 11:42

I used to spend shit loads in shampoo and conditioner, I'm 47, long hair, bottom half bleached, top half natural grey. I've found that actually head and shoulders is just as good. I do use a good leave in conditioner too tho, milkshake mousse

Abertropper · 14/02/2020 11:53

@ClientQueen your before looks like my now! How long did it take you to see those results?

minipie · 14/02/2020 12:02

I think there is a massive difference between shampoos but not necessarily price related.

Eg - my hair is ok with Pantene, Garnier etc not great not dreadful. Terribly dry with Faith in Nature. Bit limp with OGX. Greasy and flyaway with Head & Shoulders. Decent with Tresemme which I’m using now. Have tried various expensive brands too with no spectacular results.

DH’s hair is the complete opposite and the shampoos that are awful for me tend to work for him, except Faith in Nature which was rubbish for us both.

ClientQueen · 14/02/2020 12:42

@Abertropper about a year with curly girl but saw changes from months

granadagirl · 14/02/2020 12:58

Non sulphate shampoos don’t usual lather up, no masses of foam
And you have to use conditioner after as it’s not soft.
Think the sls thing is the chemicals they put in them, so non sls is no chemicals. It was all big at one time, as they use most on the chemicals in floor cleaners!!

Don’t forget if you use lots of products everyday, wash your hair with fairy liquid once a week. It strips all the products off your hair
So back to basic

PulpHorn · 14/02/2020 13:19

I've gone from using really expensive shampoos and conditioners from salons to using Aussie and can't tell the difference. Glad others agree! We even bought the Aldi knock off of Aussie recently and it was the same, it didn't smell as nice though

ReginaGeorgeous · 14/02/2020 13:32

I think it's just finding what suits your hair. I use Redken and love it, but it is pricey. I have tried all of the budget shampoos - tresemme, herbal essences, elvive etc and none of them make my hair as soft and shiny as my Redken.

Upherefordancing · 14/02/2020 14:06

I used to keep trying lots of brands in the supermarket until I used a friend's Aveda products and now wouldn't go back to supermarket brands.

I use Aveda Colour Conserve shampoo and their Shampure Conditioner (I find the Colour Conserve conditioner too rich). They both cost over £20 but my hair looks so much healthier and shinier, I think it's well worth it. They last for ages too.

MabelMoo23 · 14/02/2020 19:47

Those that don’t foam / lather it’s because they are sulfate free - basically don’t have detergent in. So lather in your hair isn’t good!

I have coloured hair so always use SLS free shampoos as they just strip my colour otherwise

BeansOnToast123 · 14/02/2020 20:11

@MabelMoo23 that’s very interesting regarding lather, I always thought lather was a good thing.
I’m really thinking now about rethinking shampoo and conditioner. I know it’s only a simple thing but it’s horrible to think that I’m using so many chemicals then these are then getting washed down the drains.
