Help! Foundation recommendations for acne skin

Over the last 18 months I’ve been suffering with really bad acne. I’ve just been told that MAC makeup is not good for your skin and clogs your pores. I’ve been using this for 5+ years. Today I tried NARS make up in a department store. I’m not fully convinced yet.....
I’m thinking of also trying Bobbi Brown and Charlotte Tilbury. Can anyone that has acne skin recommend a foundation that provides full coverage and doesn’t clog pores?

Thanks

18 months? Are you going to the dr?.

MichelleM33 · 11/02/2020 14:59

Yep, I've been given creams and antibiotics.... not helping. My doctors is awful and when I can eventually get an appointment I feel like I'm being 'fobbed off' Sad

Clinique anti blemish solutions foundation would be the one I would recommend. Steer clear of mac if you have skin that is prone to break outs, especially their studio fix foundation.

Also, the only other foundation I use that doesn’t break me out is Chanel velvet lumiere. And I’ve used a lot of foundations.

I've used the Clinique Anti Blemish, it didn't clog or cause anymore outbreaks and covers well.
I'm currently using Vichy Dermablend Corrective fluid foundation - early days but I like the coverage and the fact its spf35. It hasn't caused any outbreaks as of yet.

Right, I had acne that was resistant to topical treatments and antibiotics so my gp referred me to dermatology and they prescribed roaccutane. It was the best thing I ever did for my skin.

cks.nice.org.uk/acne-vulgaris#!scenarioRecommendation NICE guidelines for acne.

My dr said a lot of people never mention their acne to her. Hopefully you have a nicer gp at your surgery you can see.

Thanks everyone. Think I'll trying Clinique tomorrow and see how that goes!

Fluffycloud I think I'm going to try and get in to see the docs again and push for this. I've heard from several ppl that this worked for them 🤞🏼

I know I’m stating the obvious but you really need to tackle the acne. What medication have you had for it?

Have you tried differin gel or epiduo? Both are prescription, they worked brilliantly for my acne.

As for foundation Mac studiofix and estee lauder doublewear have been good for me

Fluffycloudland77 · 11/02/2020 16:59

It really pisses me off when doctors don’t help people with acne because it’s so treatable.

You’d think after all the worried well, hypochondriacs, people with viruses etc they’d like a patient with a treatable condition Confused.

Twiddlydee · 11/02/2020 17:02

I've recently just finished a 6 month course of roaccutane....best thing I ever did! Took a lot of going back and forth to the doctors before they took pity on me after I'd tried everything! Now my skin is amazing..still scarred but after years of acne its expected.
Foundation I used while I had the bad acne was Estee lauder...double wear. Wouldn't leave the house without it...now I leave the house with no foundation!

MintySpud · 11/02/2020 17:05

I think the L'Oreal stuff is kind to the skin and offers good coverage without clogging- Infallible or True Match.

daisydalrymple · 11/02/2020 17:27

Bare minerals original powder foundation

MustStopSnacking28 · 11/02/2020 17:31

Not a foundation but I have IT cosmetics your skin but better CC cream which I think was developed for people with rosacea. It gives a very good coverage but I don’t suffer with acne so can’t specifically comment on that. Hope you find something!

movingonbackwards · 11/02/2020 17:38

Estée Lauder double wear is the only thing that covers my acne. Can't imagine it's great for your skin but it hasn't made mine any worse. I feel your pain, been waiting for an appointment to get roaccutane for 4 months and that was after going privately to see dermatology in the first place.

MichelleM33 · 11/02/2020 19:01

I have been trying to tackle the acne for the last 18 months. I've tried differin as well as antibiotic tablets. I've had regular facials. I've tried numerous creams. I haven't worn makeup for ages but I can no longer even look at myself in the mirror, it's having a huge effect on my confidence and mental health.
I'm only looking for a new foundation to provide cover when I feel I'm going somewhere I need it. Days of school runs I go make up free

I think 18 months is long enough according to NICE guidelines. Keep in mind two things; It’s a bacterial infection in the skin, which is actually quite hard to treat anyway & drs are only human. They respond to nagging the same as anyone else Grin

It’s easy to change drs if they all refuse a ref to dermatology but they’d have to justify not adhering to nice guidelines.

tigerbear · 12/02/2020 10:41

I have the E.L.F Acne foundation. It’s very cheap and really works! Great coverage.

tigerbear · 12/02/2020 10:42

Just checked their website for you @MichelleM33 and it’s reduced to £3 right now!! Smile

MichelleM33 · 12/02/2020 11:33

@tigerbear wow thanks I'll take a look!

@MichelleM33 I was really impressed with it. Good coverage, and def as good, if not better, than more expensive brands.
