If I throw myself at your mercy with regards to my forthcoming weekend in london, will you all be nice??

...

I am a scruffy old hippy with no spare cash. I am a size 10, 5ft 6 and 37.
I will be staying at a grand hotel (though not eating there I imagine so won't need glamerous evening attire)
I need a capsule wardrobe to see me through travlelling on a train, appearing at grand hotel, spending a day at Hamleys with ds2 and other parents/children.
I need two outfits to see me through...preferably using existing garments (unless any of you clarsy birds wishes to lend me some stuff)
I don't wish to take too many clothes as we will be carrying a lot of toys home with us

Please advise!!

oh and how far is Kings cross from Mayfair (dahlings) Would like to take a cab rather than tube, but suspect it will clear me out

I saw some nice swing jackets in Primark - can't remember colours though

filthymindedvixen · 03/09/2007 14:09

we have no primark sadly...but thanks for all your help everyone. Keep it coming! D-day is 22nd spetember!

I think the 73 bus will take you from outside Kings Cross to Bond Street tube and it's a 5 minute walk from there, if you don't fancy the tube. It'll probably take 20 minutes in a cab. It's not far but the traffic is crappy.

meowmix · 03/09/2007 14:28

and if you're stomping round london you need comfy shoes you can walk and more importantly stand in for long periods of time.

don't sweat about being a competition winner. Hotels love them usually because they enjoy the place, rarely complain and look happy. And Claridges is usually filled to the gunnels with happy tourists with bumbags and unfeasibly large American shorts. So you will be a beaming icon of style by comparison.

meowmix · 03/09/2007 14:29

sorry another thought - any probs just remind them that you're reviewing it for thousands of yummy mummys after your stay.... champagne and running hot and cold waiters all the way

legalalien · 03/09/2007 14:30

and don't forget to bring a fold up umbrella.

filthymindedvixen · 03/09/2007 16:02

ah well, I have a stunningly stylish pirate umbrella (and wellies to match Bring on that wet stuff!

Claridges isn't grand in the sense of stuffy. It's just lovely. I'd say you could relax. If you wear jeans and boots, everyone will probably think you're a film star from dress-down LA.

It might be nice to dress up for dinner.

filthymindedvixen · 03/09/2007 16:08

what do we think of this?

OP posts:
MrsWeasley · 03/09/2007 16:13

OMG you're dressing up????

Right I'm not going

well I'll go but I'll be with the scrufs enjoying the whole experience.

I dont do tubes (they are full of nutters) so not eye catching there, its a taxi or walking for me

filthymindedvixen · 03/09/2007 16:15

no MrsW, I ain't dressing up. Not exactly, just that I can't turn up to t'Big City in my normal clothes. I look like a refugee from a commune

Are you excited? Who are you taking??? Have you heard anything from Hamleys yet

OP posts:
EffiePerine · 03/09/2007 16:17

jacket is really nice

MrsWeasley · 03/09/2007 16:20

I like the refugee look it suits me I wear it soooo well

Not heard a thing yet (perhaps we dreamt it)
Not decided who to take I am more worried about a weekend camping with my youngest. I am not built for camping and I hate bugs and the cold and sleeping in stange places ohhhhhh
After this weekend I'll start to panic about london.

I'm a lot bigger than you but I'll probably be in a black skirt and a blouse, comfort all the way for me. Not planning on buying anything new (not sure I'll have time for shopping before we go)

filthymindedvixen · 03/09/2007 16:22

oh, LOL! Have a good time camping and then CAT me and we can panic together...(I am taking almost-10-yr-old ds. Who is obviously even more excited than I am. Only not worrying about it...sigh )

MrsWeasley · 03/09/2007 16:24

I told my DC that if they misbehaved I would be giving my place away or taking a friend's child LOL

They have all been as good as gold since

filthymindedvixen · 03/09/2007 20:53

Right! Have jacket! Now I need jeans (which aren't paint-stained and disreputable)

OP posts:
MrsBadger · 04/09/2007 12:37

MrsBadger · 04/09/2007 12:38

filthymindedvixen · 04/09/2007 18:31
