forbidden to wear heels... HELP!

meowmix · 03/09/2007 11:59

I've ripped tendons and ligaments in my foot and ankle and am therefore unable to wear any of my normal 2 inch plus high heels for 3 month!

This is an issue as I don't do flat shoes except for running in (and that last happened in 1982 I think).

I'm in trainers now as did this yesterday (with a suit, it looks fricking abysmal) but what the hell can I wear thats stylish and says I'm the boss like my lovely heels do? All I could find as I hopped round the shops this morning were plimsolls or flip flops. I don't do flip flops.

Needless to say this is causing me more pain than the actual injury. Mumsnet to the rescue please?

I had exactly the same a year ago as I tore a ligament in my knee and had to suddenly lose three inches in height - it was horrendous!

This week's Grazia says that ballet pumps are back in for another season, so that's probably the way forward:

www.prettyballerinas.com/ or
frenchsole.com/

both do online delivery. If you want a cheap option, New Look and Top Shop are stuffed to the gills with flats. Flatish knee boots were my preferred option. I got some in the Toast sale.

If it's any consolation, it did make my knee miles better and although it took a year to have the op to fix it, I'm back in three inch wedgy courts today!

Watch that programme about Victoria Beckham. She won't wear anything less than a 3" heel and has the ugliest feet you ever saw. She even tried to play baseball in heels fgs!

I think ballet pumps are the only answer. You may even get to know your staff better - you'll appear to be a nicer person

meowmix · 03/09/2007 12:26

oh crap here's the other issue - all my trousers will be too long. I'm going to look like a clampit with roll ups

boots are no goes as live in the middle east and its HOT HOT HOT (as Big Cook Ben would say)

(and my staff love me all the more for my ability to skewer cockroaches with a well aimed heel)

you realise you were all meant to say "doctors, pah! what do they know about fashion?" don't you?

How about keeping the heels and borrowing a walking stick? Could also be used on the larger cockroaches...

EscapeFrom · 03/09/2007 12:40

ballet flats. They are femenine and practical.

missbumpy · 03/09/2007 14:04

Ballet flats. Definitely. M&S and Clarks do some that are pretty but comfy. Make sure you get well cushioned ones. I was once in the same position as you (always running heels then damaged a tendon in my foot and couldn't wear heels for a while) and I wore some really flat, unsupportive trainers and they did more harm than good because there was no cushioning from the impact of my feet pounding the pavements.

If it's hot can't you get some pretty flat sandals?

NappiesGalore · 03/09/2007 18:32

what i meant to say was,

doctors, pah! what do they know about fashion?

suddenly losing several inches does feel wierd at first. definately.
you get used to after the first year or so, though, dont worry [beautific]

meowmix · 06/09/2007 08:35

I got some butt ugly flat sandals and ballet pumps. Am so miserable.
