Any hairdressers who can help me

My daughter used to have dead straight sleek hair. Over the last 9 months she has started to have masses of frizz (see photo). I don't think it's due to breakage - ends look pointed like new growth but why is it suddenly looking like this? We have changed shampoos, conditioners etc but nothing helps. Can anyone please advise

Any hairdressers who can help me

That's how mine got. I have straight fine hair but lots of it and was over washing, it also got greasy and flat very quickly.

I moved to a shampoo only approach and washing twice a week. I get kids leave in spray conditioner and lightly spritz the ends only and it's helped loads.

When I was washing it every day I was stripping the natural oils.

That could have been a pic of my hair recently. I have always had straight and sleek hair. I have spent a fortune on different products but nothing worked. My hairdresser said I needed moisture and she recommended Joico moisture recovery shampoo, conditioner and balm. What a difference it has made to my hair .

How old is your daughter?

redtulip12 · 10/02/2020 15:54

Daughter is 14. I have tried a deep conditioner to see if it needed more moisture but that hasn't worked.

That’s the age that about 4 members of my family ended up with curly hair - me included!
My sister’s went from shiny and glossy to matte. It then turned to ringlets!
We call them puberty curls
It might be happy to your daughter?! Smile

*happening ?

redtulip12 · 10/02/2020 18:57

@withlotsoflove I did wonder about that. I am curly. She won't be happy! It does look a bit like the new growth is curly. Wonder how long it would take to fully transition.

well one of the best things I have ever used came from home bargains. Its a lovely oil called Inecto smooth me coconut serum. It is just so good. I have tried loads and none of them compare to this.
It leaves your hair beautiful and does not make it sticky or feel dirty and oily. I love it.

Puberty?

TDL2016 · 10/02/2020 19:13

Her hair looks fine. Encourage her to embrace hair rather than reinforcing that she needs to “fix“ it.

redtulip12 · 10/02/2020 21:55

@TDL2016 I haven't made a thing of it at all. It's her that is questioning why it is like it and how she can stop it. I said I would try and see if anyone knew the reason or had been through the same thing. I don't want her to start getting the straighteners on it but she feels like everyone must be looking at it.

It could literally be from how the hair dries, eg a quick rough blow dry vs a sleek blowdry with a brush

mnthrowaway202020 · 11/02/2020 00:40

Also hair serum should sort it out, it’s a basic fix and I’m surprised you haven’t tried serum within the last 9 months

We all had ‘new’ hair quite quickly!
See if treating it as wavy:curly hair might help?
Those top hairs really do look like a new hair type! Smile

I remember my Mum being so sad.
My sister’s hair was so dramatically different.
Once she had realised her hair was curly it was fine... but to start with, it almost look like your hair is poorly Grin
