Dry shampoo that’s not in a can

Is there any about? I get through a lot and cans don’t last long. I’m trying to be more eco-friendly.

I have tried DIY things like cornflour but it’s not good for on the go!

Batiste do one in a little pot that you can sprinkle on. I didn’t find it great though. I saw someone suggest using baking soda as dry shampoo on here.

Miseryisabutterfly · 10/02/2020 16:27

Sorry I missed the last line of your post!

There are several brands that do powder in a little shake bottle. Superdrug have several

mytypeonpaper · 10/02/2020 17:34

The best one I have found is from Lush - it’s called no drought dry shampoo. You get a decent big bottle for £13 that smells amazing and it lasts ages.

wizzywig · 10/02/2020 22:36

Bumble and Bumble do one

FridgeOffal · 11/02/2020 00:36

Have you tried talc? A mini johnsons baby powder lasts ages

PorpentinaScamander · 11/02/2020 00:49

I use baby talc.

smashstore · 11/02/2020 01:18

How does talc work as shampoo?

How do you use it though?

With talc I sprinkle some on my roots, leave for a min or so and then brush through.

Monty27 · 11/02/2020 01:34

I'm going to try talc again. I used it as a teen.
The aerosol brands don't last 5 minutes and are expensive Blush

FruityWidow · 11/02/2020 01:44

Bastille and the spray dry shampoos are all powder based (rice starch) aresols with a bit of fragrance. I use a talc free body powder mixed with some cornflour with a few drops of essence to smell nice. It's basically the same as the Lush version but costs 60p not £13.

UYScuti · 11/02/2020 01:53

Using talcum powder didn't work for me at all it was nothing like dry shampoo I found 😕

silentpool · 11/02/2020 06:35

Klorane do one but it is in a plastic bottle so no more eco-friendly than a can.

MsRinky · 11/02/2020 08:36

The Aveda one is good. It is in a plastic bottle, but you can buy refills for it, so the non-recyclable lid that puffs it out gets reused. Smells divine.

GreyishDays · 11/02/2020 08:40

@smashstore I think dry shampoos were originally made from talc. It soaks up grease.

Hercwasonaroll · 11/02/2020 08:42

The lush one is great, especially if used the night before. I sprinkle it on my hair at the roots, rub it in then brush my hair. It does feel a bit heavier than batiste but looks good. It also smells less sickly than batiste.

TheLadyAnneNeville · 11/02/2020 10:33

Be careful with the talc. Especially, touching your hair and then clothing. It transfers. (I used to wear a black uniform).

Also, you could avoid talc by trying the Neals Yard Talc Free Powder. There’s not a massive cancer risk with talc use but there can be a connection with lung irritation and with prolonged use, scarring of lung tissue.

I've used talc for years, my hair is baby fine and a nightmare without something to help it.

FridgeOffal · 11/02/2020 12:07

@smashstore I puff a little talc onto roots, massage it in a bit and turn head upside down and shake excess out. Works better than brushing it through but can do that if you've accidentally used too much. Talc absorbs excess oil and mattifies the shiney greasy bits of hair to make you look more presentable between washes- like baptise, its not suitable for use instead of normal shampoo but will cover up for you those times when you havent had time to wash it.

Ive tried cornflour but I find the texture is all wrong for trying to sprinkle or shake/brush back out again Sad
