Spotty back

LivingDeadGirlUK · 09/02/2020 22:54

I have relativly clear skin on my face but have developed a really spotty back. I've tried exfoliating and also tee tree products but its not really helping. Anyone got any suggestions?

Go and see the dr.

Careersytype · 10/02/2020 07:14

Do you have a really hot shower? If so, turn it down....

LivingDeadGirlUK · 10/02/2020 22:03

no I actuslly have quite a cool shower, I can't stand it very hot and have always had to turn it down after someone else uses it.

I can go see the dr but it seems excessive for spots.

I had a similar problem and tried Original Source Shower Gel - the one with Tea Tree. It worked really well. I think there's a mint one and a lemon one. Might be worth a go

GoshAnon1234 · 10/02/2020 22:20

I used a Clinique anti blemish body kind of spray but can’t remember exacts until
I find my empty! But on looking online I see that Superdrug Deep Action Back Spray has great reviews. Think I’ll try it myself!

GoshAnon1234 · 10/02/2020 22:22

To add, I had this problem for years but upon using the Clinique product I cleared up in a couple of months! I still have some spots a couple of times a year but that’s it!

LivingDeadGirlUK · 10/02/2020 22:25

I used to use that original source shower gel when I was younger, maybe thats why I didn't have a spotty back then! Thanks all will look into these.

I had this. Don’t waste your money on Clinique this or Superdrug that . Turned out I had an allergy to something found in nearly all liquid soaps and shower gels. I just use water now and I’m fine.

Confuseddotcommm · 10/02/2020 22:30

I’ve struggled with this periodically over the past 20 years.

Make sure you are rinsing your hair and body properly after washing / conditioning your hair. You may find a face or body wash containing salicylic acid helps, but you need to commit to using it daily for a month before you may see any improvement.

Are you wearing breathable fabrics, exercising or sweating more than usual?

ClientQueen · 10/02/2020 22:30

Make sure to wash body after hair so you don't have remnants of conditioner on it
Dettol soap works for me

LivingDeadGirlUK · 10/02/2020 22:43

I walk to and from work and this can get a bit sweaty, tbh not all my clothes are cotton and I do notice a sweatier arrival if in a polyester dress so thats def something to think about!

My back improved massively after I started to make sure I washed all of the shampoo/conditioner off it after I showered and let it "breathe" rather than regularly be in sweaty fabrics .

CrowleysBentley · 11/02/2020 00:00

I wash my back with plain soap last after shampoo and conditioner, spray with a bit of the ordinary glycolic toner a few times a week (that I've put int a spray bottle), and use cerave sa smoothing cream which contains salicylic acid, it's a bit sticky feeling and weird smelling but sinks in fast and the smell dissipates very quickly.

Back spots are a recent thing for me too, another stupid perimenopause symptom Hmm

There are a million things you could try. Google will provide you with an endless list of products, potential irritants (soap powders /SLS in shampoo/ shower gels etc), diet changes (cut out dairy/ cut out artificial sweeteners/ reduce sugar intake etc), creams (including an OTC cream that will bleach all your pjs and bedsheets) - teanigi cream is actually pretty good at treating painful spots and helps them heal faster but won’t stop new ones forming. Epsom salt baths can also be good at drawing out painful spots faster but again won’t cure the underlying issue. I know because I tried them all (and more) over the course of 10 years. I can list things for you to try if you want but it’s a long process as you need to try each thing out on its own for a good few weeks to give it a chance to work.

If you’ve had them for a little while and they won’t shift then I really, really recommend going to the Doctor. I regret waiting so long before finally going in. I was prescribed antibiotics for 6 months and it cleared them up nicely. They haven’t returned- maybe the odd spot now and again but nothing like before and no more of the large, painful cystic spots.

Totally cut dairy out

Fluffycloudland77 · 11/02/2020 06:32

If you cut dairy out you have to work harder to find calcium and vitamin d in your diet. I’m allergic to cows milk, never stopped me getting cystic acne.

Part of your body has a chronic bacterial infection producing pus. See your dr. Your immune system is failing to manage it.
