Fungal toenails

I've tried EVERYTHING.

Scholl "paint-on" varnish. Athletes foot cream. Terabinide cream. Filing them down.

Nothing works. It's the little toe and the one beside it on each foot.

Does anyone have any foolproof cures? I'm pregnant so probably can't take any medicine for it.

Argh.

Oregano oil is known for its anti fungal properties, a few drops mixed with a carrier oil.

Any chemist will have neat hydrogen peroxide behind the counter or you can buy it in larger quantities from Amazon.

tobee · 10/02/2020 21:52

So what would be your first choice of treatment peeps? And then what? Or any old order? Smile

TheCazaletCousins · 10/02/2020 22:06

I had no response to Scholl paint but tried excilor fungicide paint - it's available from Amazon- and it worked over 9m with vigilant filing to ensure the paint can work properly.
I was sceptical about whether it would be effective but it completely cleared my extensively diseased great toe nail!

frostedviolets · 10/02/2020 22:16

I get this a lot on my big toes.
It starts as a small white spot then spreads.

I cut as much of the nail off as physically possible then file off as many layers of nail as I can carefully before it gets too sensitive.

Then I rub olbas oil and neem cream in twice a day until the nail grows out.

As long as I don't use any nail polish my nails stay looking nice and fungus free.

If ever I polish my toes guaranteed it comes back.

Vicks and burn your old shoes and boil wash your socks.

tobee · 10/02/2020 22:55

Do you disinfect your scissors after using them to cut nails?

Shoobydoo123 · 10/02/2020 22:59

I think you can get private laser treatment too, Pretty sure it was a GP or chiropodist that told me, but I’ve been too lazy to arrange it.

Onesailwait · 10/02/2020 23:06

.its a fungal infection so you need to go to the doctor & get antibiotics. I had it in my 2 big toes. Its taken 6 months of antibiotics but I can finally see a difference. After about 10yrs this summer i may finally be able to wear sandals

Changeofjob · 10/02/2020 23:10

Has anyone tried laser treatment? How many treatments and was it effective?

CalmConfident · 10/02/2020 23:12

It’s a fungal infection so antibiotics do not help, you will get anti-fungal meds - mentioned up thread.

Not suitable whilst pregnant or breastfeeding - that is when mine took hold :(

Bleach diluted in water in a bowl for feet ! It works !! I know sounds savage but I was desperate ! Go swimming also and see the difference that makes too it dries it out ! Maybe not bleach while preg tho lol x

Nanalisa60 · 10/02/2020 23:18

Original Listerine mouth wash soak the infected nail in it every day then rub in vicks. Also cut them down and also file the nail. Only works with the old original listerine. Only use the nail file on the infected nail as it can spreed to other nails if you use it on them.
