Tall girls help- wedding guest wear!!

So I've got a wedding to go to in April and stressing already! I don't go out anywhere so have no occasionally wear at all.
My difficulty in researching so far is less the dress but the footwear as I'm 6 foot tall and occasion wear all seems to need heels - had no issue wearing heels when younger but just don't feel comfortable now - it's trainers / dms all the way.
I'm late forties and size 12 and my usual style is quite plain - I like cos and some all saints (sales or eBay!).
If anyone can help with suggestions I'd be very grateful!!

Do you need completely flat or can you do a block or kitten heel. Does a strap help?

I don’t do heels any longer and I am also going to a wedding this year. I have bought shoes from Charles and Keith which are not leather so not expensive but suit my style (and possibly yours from the brands you mention).

I have bought these which are about the best I can manage but they have quite a lot of options so worth a browse.

Oh I've never heard of them and there is definitely potential there. Thank you!!

You don't need to wear heels these days. I never do. Ever! And I go to some ridiculously high falutin places. It is absolutely fine. I'm not as tall as you, only 5'10, but yes never liked the towering over people feeling.

I wear brogues, trainers, biker boots. So long as it looks deliberate anything can work. Last year I walked the red carpet in a pair of sock trainers I bought from The Factory Shop for £6, which was hilarious (and comfy).

Thanks. I've got the trainers or dms with dresses sorted it's just smarter I'm unsure! Not sure I can get away with trainers to a wedding - tho if I find a maxi dress to hide them....!!??

What about smart pointy flats? I really really would not wear trainers to a wedding!

MadamePewter · 10/02/2020 07:54

I have nice pointy toe flats from Zara who also usually have some quite stylish low heels. For a wedding I’d probably do a low heel unless flats with a maxi.

ASOS also has millions of low heels: I have some lovely velvet sling backs with kitten heels, which I’m not normally a fan of but they look like proper fancy shoes without the height

Lojoh · 10/02/2020 07:59

No don't hide them. Wear what ever you are wearing on purpose and without apology and it will be fine.

Or Topshop

Do you need to wear a dress? At a wedding I went to last year there was a tall lady wearing a smart jumpsuit with flats and she looked stunning.

Howdidthathappen1 · 10/02/2020 09:01

Definitely open to a jump suit - I've only ever tried one on and it was so far out of my usual I couldn't feel comfortable. I really like them though

I'm 5'11" and I don't wear heals any more. I used to only wear them for weddings and formal things - but I just never felt comfortable in them, so I gave myself permission to wear flats. I think it's more common these days.

Something with a slightly pointed toe looks smarter I think. I've got some nice leather ones from Toms but I can't see them anymore on the website.. Boden have got some nice looking ones though.
