Skin tags

I have some skin tags on my neck that I would like to get removed. My doctors used to do a removal clinic but don't any more.

Can anyone offer advice on the best way to get them removed?

My dp has removed some of mine with thread.

filka · 09/02/2020 13:27

@antihop can you explain that a bit more? I tried that but it hasn't worked, thread must have come loose (but not loose enough to come off)

SquishyFishy · 09/02/2020 19:17

Do you mean as in tying them off with cotton? How quickly did they come off?

Interested as I have one on my face that i would love to get rid of

TobyeBella · 09/02/2020 19:21

I had mine removed at a private dermatology clinic run by a nhs gp.

I've recently twisted two off my neck. I just twist it as far as I can one way (until it slightly smarts), then do the same the other way. Do it whenever you remember over 3 or 4 days and it'll dry up then fall off.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 09/02/2020 19:31

I have a few on my neck (only small) but one really hurt where it kept getting rubbed or caught in my collar. Then it must've come away because ......it was gone !

If the pain of thread tying is similar to that I would be too chicken Blush

damnthatanxiety · 09/02/2020 19:34

Mine a weeny but i hate them. I doubt you could tie a thread around them though. surely they would need to be fairly huge to be able to tie them.

BabyItsAWildWorld · 09/02/2020 19:39

Apple cider vinegar. Dries them and makes them crispy - then keep wiggling them throughout the day.
They drop off after a couple of days.

hellojim · 09/02/2020 19:43

I bought a thing called Micro Tag Band which seems to work - I think I bought it on Amazon. It places a tiny elastic band around the tag to cut off the blood supply. It says that it is suitable for small and medium skin tags. It was less painful than using a thread when I tried it.

KangapooandRoo · 09/02/2020 19:46

Amazon have these removers I can't say I've used them but the reviews seem OK

Branster · 09/02/2020 22:46

I had one on my neck, it was small but it annoyed me. I was told the local health centre don’t freeze them anymore. I tried apple cider vinegar religiously twice a day for two months and it didn’t make any change. So I booked an appointment with a GP specialised in dermatology at my health centre and they froze it with a spray for me and it dissapeared after a week. I couldn’t find an independent local clinic offering this freeze service in my area despite having millions of fancy beauty salons and clinics around here. They offer alternative treatments but I didn’t want alternatives. This sort of service could easily be chargeable on the NHS and lots of us would use it.

rosesandcashmere · 09/02/2020 22:52

I had them cauterised off by a private dermatologist at my local private hospital, I just called her secretary and made an appointment.

pinkoneblueone · 09/02/2020 22:52

I had a doctor cut mint with sterilised scissors, he pulled them out with tweezers they stayed away for about 10years. I plan to repeat the process myself

Esspee · 09/02/2020 23:02

I sterilized new very sharp nail clippers. Wiped the little beggar with alcohol and clipped it off. It bled for a while so I dabbled it with hydrogen peroxide. Job done!
In the past I have horrified my doctor by operating on a largish sebacious cyst on my scalp when told I couldn't have it done on the NHS. It never came back but I did need anti biotics that time.😱
Should have prefaced this with "Don't try this at home" I suppose

SquishyFishy · 10/02/2020 11:40

@Esspee wow that must have hurt?!

OP posts:
Esspee · 10/02/2020 14:31

I have a high pain threshold @SquishyFishy. The skin tag was almost painless. For the cyst I used an anaesthetic cream and a couple of vodkas. Though to be honest it was only after the vodkas that I thought of doing the job myself.🤪

Wonkybanana · 10/02/2020 14:39

I've not had many, but when I do I'm another one who's happy to perform minor surgery on myself. I have a pair of small, sharp nail scissors and just nip them off at the base of their little stem. It bleeds for about 20 seconds, heals up in no time because the cut is tiny, and they're gone.

notanothershitday · 10/02/2020 17:00

I cut mine off with nail clippers, one on my neck and two under arm area. They did bleed but not for long and have never come back

dementedma · 10/02/2020 20:44

Would it be ok to cut one off my face? On my cheekbone under left eye

RogueV · 10/02/2020 21:56

I use a nail clipper

Works brilliantly

Wildwood6 · 11/02/2020 13:57

My partner used to have quite a few, I just got rid of them for him the way my mum taught me- tie a small piece of string around the bottom of them very tightly (you might want to cover with a plaster if they're on your face or you'll get strange looks!) it cuts the blood supply and within a few days to a week they just drop off. It doesn't hurt and nothing got infected.

SquishyFishy · 22/02/2020 11:08

Just in case anyone is interested, I finally plucked up the courage to use nail clippers on it - I can't believe I didn't do that years ago! 😂

One tiny sting for about half a second and that was it!

Anyone else reading this thread with a numb, tingly feeling in their legs?! It's making me feel queasy! I take my hat off to all you brave people hacking away with metal instruments!

I had one removed from my neck at the docs, they too now don't offer this service anymore. I have one more that I'd like to have gone, think I'll try the apple cider vinegar method.
