Treatment for Spots - in my 30s!

BertieDrapper · 04/02/2020 14:22

My skins never been great, always got the odd one or two spots - especially hormone ones.
But recently its been quite bad - all the time. Mainly around my chin and lower cheeks.

Can anyone recommend any products to help?

Is it possible you have rosacea or acne? I'd go to the GP and they can advise, as well as give prescription treatments

Spots on the chin and jawline are hormonal. You could try the usual treatments - niacinamide, salicylic acid, a retinoid or adapalene. But really, save yourself the time and frustration and see your GP if they're bothering you. It seems really common now for women to be plagued with acne in their 30s - I'm 40 and have finally got mine under control with Dianette.

Yes to seeing the G P.

Another good prescription drug for hormonal adult acne is Spironolactone. It may be that you need to be referred to a consultant for this though.

My acne has never really gone away so in my mid 40s I saw a private dermatologist who referred me to an NHS dermatologist who specialise in adult acne. She prescribed this for me and my gp just refills the prescription.

As pp says Dianette is very effective too.

I really don't want to go on the pill... I have no need for it.

I've started working in a very dusty environment so was thinking the increase in spots was due to that.

Sorry not trying to dump on everyone's advice but just wanted to be able to buy something - cleanser, etc to give that a go. I'd feel like I was wasting a GPs time x

I use Paula’s Choice liquid exfoliant - it has cleared up my hormonal acne around my cheeks and chin, I also the calm cleansing gel - I highly recommend both, they are brilliant Smile

Onthetrain75 · 04/02/2020 21:11

This might be very obvious, but do you touch your face a lot? I used to get lots of spots around jaw line, made a real effort not to touch face and spots improved. Might be worth a go as well as some of the other remedies people have suggested?

emsyj37 · 04/02/2020 21:31

Is the Paula's Choice liquid exfoliant a glycolic acid?? I've heard so many great things about the brand I need to try some of the products I think.

I wouldn't worry about wasting the GP's time. I spent over a year trying over the counter things that didn't work and were expensive, before finally going to the GP and getting prescription medication. In hindsight I should have just gone to the GP in the first place.

I was the same I would get a new spot every day it was worse than my teenage daughters skin ! 2 things have worked for me and neither are expensive. Firstly as a face wash Avon white clay cleanser scrub £3 then as a moisturiser silver serum by the skin shop about £13. If you google it it has amazing results. I know how frustrating it is, good luck.

I got adult Acne when I was 25 so almost 4 years ago nothing doctors gave me worked and I didn't want to be put on roacutane, I found a face serum I use miceller water every night to remodel make up and then use a face serum, I found it got rid of my spots and my redness and scaring I had. The one I use is Latona London but there are so many brands these days. Face cream makes mine worse I literally just stick to serum hope that's helps :)

BertieDrapper · 04/02/2020 22:29

Ive ordered a trial set of paulas choice and see how that works.

I don't touch my face

  • but I do wear a face mask - for the dust at work - maybe that isn't helping! But I have to wear it.

Try neat lavender oil - it was recommended to me by a beauty therapist at an Aveda salon, and works really well. It cost about £5 in Boots, H&B etc. I also put a drop round my nose at night before bed because it helps me sleep. Fish oil capsules - if you are not vegetarian - can help from the inside out.
