Invisaligns and brushing straight after meals

I've recently got full Invisaligns. I've been rinsing with water and brushing straight after meals but I thought that brushing after anything acidic/sugary harmed enamel? Should I wait longer?

I've got a few weeks before my next dentist appt so asking here.

I’m not sure. I’m thinking of getting Invisalign and know you have to brush before you put them back in. I haven’t heard if not brushing straight after eating. If you’ve got time to wait then do but if you’re at work etc you might not have time for that. I think if it was an issue they’d have told you that.

I'd invest in something like fluorigard. A fluoride mouthwash to use in between meals.

Sorry - meant straight after meals!

mytypeonpaper · 02/02/2020 12:35

Wait 20 mins

Yeah or use fluriogaurd as PP suggested- much easier too

Thank you, will check out the mouthwash for times when I'm in the office and wait longer before brushing after meals.

I was worried about extending the time the Invisaligns are in my mouth, especially as I'm a slow eater, but I think I'll still average 22 hrs most days.

I've got Invisalign too, I normally have a drink of water after eating and then brush my teeth, it probably does end up being about 20 mins after eating. If I'm out and about I sometimes chew some gum until I can clean them properly.
I drink tea/coffee/wine through a straw and don't bother taking the aligners out 🤫🤭

@Squiz81I think these are all good tips. Going to start doing the same!

I was super diligent brushing after each meal when I first got mine. Four months in and I'm decidedly lax but my teeth look fine and I change mine every week so no discolouration on the tray.

I'm extra vigilant with flossing as once the aligners are in all those bits are trapped. I got an oral flosser from Amazon for £10, you squirt water between your teeth and it's amazing what brushing doesn't get - so I'd recommend that!

I have also eaten with mine in, and it was peanuts so not something soft either. I just make sure I scrub the aligners when I clean my teeth. I got to the stage where I just needed to make sure I had them in for the maximum time. I should be done in 2 weeks. I'm so pleased with the results.
