How do you look after your hands?

So I do a weekly face mask, take care of my feet with regular pedicures and my nails are fine with manicures. But apart from a bit of hand cream I don’t really do anything with my hands. Should I be? Some posh soak or something? Grin

I get cold hands in all seasons except summer so always wear gloves outside which also prevents chapping and protection from UV rays (if there are any around). In the summer I usually put sun cream at least factor 30 on the backs.

I should wear rubber gloves when doing housework/washing up but invariably I forget.

Girlintheframe · 02/02/2020 08:26

I've started using solar oil on my cuticles. Regularly put on hand cream through out the day and rub excess of facial serums/cream on them. Also wear gloves for housework and when it's cold outside

KedsAndTubeSocks · 02/02/2020 08:54

Following as my hands need some TLC.

CountryCob · 02/02/2020 21:04

Best hand cream I have found is palmers raw Shea - I have lots of animals to care for and they crack without this. Agree re gloves my current favourite are brayer thermal gardening gloves for outside jobs, it’s cold and water that do the real damage in my opinion xx

I use my face cream/oil on my hands. What ever moisturiser i'm using i'll do my face and then rub a blob into the backs of my hands (hands back to back iyswim) and then quickly all over.

In summer i'll also put a high SPF on the backs of them before i go out when i put it on what ever other bits of me i'm doing. This stops age spots forming and, if you're religious about it, fades existing ones.

I've been doing this for years and my hands don't look their age.

I use the Body Shop hemp cream before bed, and before leaving for work in the morning. I always have painted nails, so usually on a Saturday or Sunday depending on what we’re doing I use oil and an orange stick on my cuticles, and massage in cream to the actual nails. Always wear gloves outside at this time of year - I bought cash, ere lined leather ones in an M&S Sparks thing a few years ago and they are really nice. That’s it. Maybe I should be doing more? I never wear gloves for cleaning etc.

Hand scrub is a nice extra thing to do. Feels good and helps with any dry bits around your nails. I either use a normal body scrub or one specifically marketed as being for the hands. Soap and glory sugar crush body scrub is good, because it's very oily as well as scrubby, and Essie do a hand scrub in their manicure range (think you can only get it online.) Just make sure to moisturise well afterwards. I do it every couple of weeks or so.

For a quick moisturiser I really like La Roche Posay lipikar lait Lotion. It's meant for the body really but it's brilliant on hands. Sinks in really fast, light but rich enough to actually do something. I use that during the day (big one with a pump) and at night LRP Cicaplast hand cream or neutrogena blue top. Massage it into your nails and around them whilst watching tv or settling down in bed.

I always forget to wear rubber gloves too. They seem to get in the way. Really should try to.

EatenByDinosaurs · 03/02/2020 00:25

I've long held the policy that whatever I do to my face (skincare wise) I also do to my neck, chest and backs of my hands.

So full skincare routine including tretinoin, glycolic acid, vitamin c, facial oils, hyaluronic acid, toner, suncream etc. Obviously not in that order though.

It only takes a tiny amount of time extra but is ridiculously effective and I find I went from very dry cracked hands to never needing hand cream. Sadly my hands, neck and chest now look younger than my face Grin

Every morning and night I turn on the tap that is to the sink it soon poors out hot water I then wet my hands and some soap I rub the soap on my hands put it down then rubs my hands together before putting my hands back in the water and moving them around a bit

RedIsWhereItsAt · 03/02/2020 00:33

A bit of Vaseline at bedtime makes them soft by the morning.

Time40 · 03/02/2020 00:40

Nivea Q10 (it's got sunblock). Proper sunblock in bright summer sunshine. Gloves when outdoors in winter. Rubber gloves for all wet household jobs, every single time.

KedsAndTubeSocks · 05/02/2020 14:38

@EatenByDinosaurs after only a couple of days treating my hands the same as my face I can already see an improvement! Thanks.

haverhill · 05/02/2020 14:41

I use cheap face products on my hands - the Aldi blue pot moisturiser makes them feel really good. I also prefer the lighter texture of face stuff - I find hand creams too claggy.

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 06/02/2020 16:37

All my passtimes require me to have short nails so I keep them short and use some Vaseline now and again. That's it.

CrowleysBentley · 07/02/2020 12:24

I use everything that I put my face, on my hands at the same time. Tretinoin 0.05% every night, Garden of wisdom niacinamide every night, timeless vitamin c, e, ferulic every other morning, and glycolic or salicylic acid every other morning. Plus I use a good hand cream every time I wash my hands, L'Occitane shea intensive hand cream at night and spf 50 sunscreen every day.

Floisme · 07/02/2020 12:37

The most effective hand products I know are Lanisoh nipple cream mixed with a touch of almond oil, or raw shea butter, again with a bit of oil. And I wear rubber gloves when cleaning. But that's it. Unlike my face, my hands have a job to do.

EnidButton · 07/02/2020 16:18

Lansinoh is one of my all time favourite products. Amazing on lips. Never thought of mixing it with oil or Shea for hands. That's a brilliant idea.

EnidButton · 07/02/2020 16:18

TheFairyCaravan · 07/02/2020 16:24

I use the Body Shop Almond hand and nail butter at night and in the day if my hands are sore. Generally in the day I use the Almond hand cream.

@KedsAndTubeSocks you're welcome, glad I could help Smile
