Pale with dark brown hair...

I'm looking for help! I can look literally ill thanks to pale white skin and dark brown hair. I notice it so much in photos it's shocking! Probably ages me too (the dark undereye circles don't help).

Thank you!

I think dark hair and pale skin is stunning. Could you accentuate it with perfect foundation and red lips? (Not a look I could carry off in a million years but it looks stunning on others with the right colouring.)

I have similar colouring, my tips for looking more alive/awake...

  • Get your eyebrows threaded by a professional, it helps shapes your face.
  • For five minute make up in the morning: powder in brows, BB cream (or tinted moisturizer), blusher, mascara, tinted lip balm.
  • Check out Lisa Eldridge's make up tutorials on YouTube, she's also pale with dark hair (granted not as dark as yours), and she has some good tips for make up application. It's also nice to see her looking a bit rough and normal at the start of the video!
  • If you want to try a change with your hair, Google "dark caramel balayage" or "dark brown balayage" for some ideas, less maintenance than highlights.

I have dark hair and pale skin and what makes a huge difference to me is the clothes I wear, the colours.
Maybe find what you are (summer/ cool/ warm...) and wear colours to suit.
I look “amazing” in some colours and dead in others

ArtieFufkinPolymerRecords · 01/02/2020 10:04

Is your hair your natural colour, I mean totally dye-free?

Ilikepepper · 01/02/2020 10:11

Can you go someplace to get your colours done? Is it just an online tool? I am hopeless at self analysis!

Wearing white is interesting to me because I never ever wear it (not even a white shirt to my name) as think of that as washing me out. I have a yellow undertone which is hidden under the paleness.

Maybe I haven't been embracing what I have and will pursue the Snow White thing (a theme definitely helps!). The suggestions on here have been fantastic.

If I still feel yuk then I think a bigger transformation is needed.

Would the hair colouring attached suit pale skin/hazel eyes?

Natural apart from ash brown dye at (grey) roots at side/front. I just use a home dye root cover up that matches fine apart from a red tinge in certain light.

I was always taught natural compliments best but my natural only pops out my paleness (my eye colour gets lost).

I would be very wary of the goth look but with red lips. I think you can achieve a more professional look with good makeup that gives you some colour. Red lips in the evening maybe?

She has beautiful warm dark brown eyes. My light hazel eyes just don't add that warmth.

I have pink overtones like pepper which might be why white ok on me and not you 🤔

Tempnamelady · 01/02/2020 13:21

I’m the same, dark brown hair ( albeit coloured a bit as I’ve a few greys) , mid brown , eyes and milk white skin. I look like I’ve been dug up first thing and also after a few drinks, weird but drinking just leeches the colour from my face. I also have a Olivey tinge to my skin so I can’t wear most foundations , far too pink.

I tend to stick to the winter palette of colours. As for make up, I keep it fairly simple, dark brows and liner and a natural lipstick but plenty of blush.

BubblesBuddy · 01/02/2020 15:49

Yes but makeup will improve any pale skin. You don’t have to change colour. Also good eye make up tends to mean others notice that, not your actual eye colour. Again get help with possible shades and blending.

ArtieFufkinPolymerRecords · 02/02/2020 16:25

The reason I asked about hair dye is because when people dye to their original colour it is often too dark for them now, and doesn't look right with their current skin tone. We never look at children and decide that their hair and skin don't look right together.

EnidButton · 02/02/2020 17:41

Exact same colouring. Definitely try to embrace it. I set up a (private) Pinterest board with pale skinned dark haired actresses and models

EnidButton · 02/02/2020 17:47

Posted by accident...

was saying I have a Pinterest board with pics of people I think look nice with similar colouring to me which helped when I was feeling unconfident about my colouring due to unkind comments from years ago.

That said I do sometimes put a bit of bronzer on to add depth to my face rather than colour. I like Bare Minerals invisible bronze in light as it's very subtle and cool toned. Also a cool toned bright pink blusher applied lightly does wonders and a colour corrector (Bobbi brown) applies before a concealer (Nars) for my dark bits in the corners of my eyes. Doesn't have to be heavy but can brighten the skin up a bit.

EnidButton · 02/02/2020 17:50

*cool toned pink

Sorry, I missed what you said about a yellow undertone. A peachy toned blush then. Mac a pinch o peach is very nice.

MuddyPuddlesAndPrettyBubbles · 02/02/2020 17:54

You sound a bit like Kyrsten Ritter. There's a link here on how her makeup was done and you could try similar, rosy blusher and a lipstick with a slight purple tone?

Dandelion is a good shout, I also like Coralista from Benefit. I'm going to go against the grain and say don't ditch the bronzer if you don't want to, have a look at Hoola Lite while you're at the Benefit counter.

I have dark brown hair and highlights give warmth to my skin tone too. Plus they have the advantage of hiding my greys better too.

WellTidy · 02/02/2020 18:49

This is my colouring.

For blusher, I like Benefit Dandelion (pale pink) and Coralista (more of a coral). No glitter in either.

Eyeshadows - I use a mix of oranges, neutrals and browns, golds and charcoal.

Lipsticks - I have three or four that I use on rotation. Mostly Estée Lauder - insatiable Ivory (a nude), barely nude (a richer nude, two wards brown), baby cashmere (rose pink, quite dark pink though), and an ancient one that they don’t make anymore called Cafe Latte which is quite bronze. I also like a coral lip crayon that Nars male called Happy Days which is quite coral.

Ilikepepper · 06/03/2020 13:09

Gals thank you for the top tips. I'm loving my new makeup. The dandelion is beautiful and rediscovering lipsticks that aren't just red has been really fun!

I thought I would update as it turns out I am anaemic so thank you for reminding me it could be a possibility as I had dismissed it! I became a vegetarian a few months back so must do better at keeping on top of iron intake. So anyone else who dismisses getting a blood test, might be worth a double check x
