vegas outfit suggestions

Dh and i are off on a solo trip to Vegas (no kids - woohoo!!!!!)

Holiday wardrobes for me have always been about keeping cool and comfortable - but seeing as it's just me and dh this time around I'd like to try and look a bit nicer!

Weather is going to be about 22oC and I'm told it's warm in the sun but quite cold in the shade / evenings.

We have 3-4 days of sightseeing and 4 evenings out, 1 of which will be pretty posh (but I think I've got that covered) and probably miles and miles of walking!

So - please hit me with your best adults only cool tourist outfit recommendations please!

I'm 5ft 5, size 10-12 pear shape and not quite middle aged Grin

Comfy shoes are a must. Even when you don't think you're walking miles you actually do!

I took a leather jacket which I wore in the evenings, some dresses and blouses from fat face, jeans and t-shirts.
I wish I'd taken my cotton harem type trousers and my fit flops!
Basically anything floaty and comfortable will be perfect.

Also if you plan on doing Valley of fire or similar then take walking shoes/boots. Watch out for the rather aggressive sales people trying to get you on a cheap Grand Canyon helicopter trip. It will cost you dearly, several hours sat in a conference room listening to a time share pitch!

sweetheart · 31/01/2020 15:26

Did you take any heels at all? My poor old pear shapped bottom always looks better with a pair of heels - even if it's low heal boots for the evenings - or am I just kidding myself?

We are planning to hire a car from the airport and taking ourselves to the grand canyon so will certainly be avoiding any sales pitch people - far too much other stuff to keep us busy!

Leather jacket and denim jacket were 100% on my list for evenings x

I had my ankle boots with me (block heels) but only wore them for travelling and in the evening. No one really dressed up in the evenings anywhere it seemed.
Sales people are everywhere!! They will thrust crap in your hands, my saying no got harsher and harsher as the week went on.
Fully recommend the Hoover Dam and the memorial bridge there too. We hired a car and took ourselves off all over, it was a fab holiday and I would love to go back if I'm honest.

sweetheart · 31/01/2020 15:37

Hmmmm ok so saying no one dresses up - even in a posh restaurant? Dh and I were planning to splash out on 1 special meal whilst we were there and I was going to take something nice to wear but I'd hate to look really over dressed and out of place.

OP posts:
sweetheart · 31/01/2020 15:39

I have ordered a whole bunch of outfits thinking I would go with a new style for the trip but now I'm thinking just my boring old jeans and tshirts will be more suitable.

Some restaurants do have dress codes in the nicer hotels.
A lot of the hotels have more of a food court set up and no dress code at all and there are the buffet type places too which have no dress code.

Doublethesarcasm · 31/01/2020 15:43

I was like you planned a whole load of outfits day and evening etc and then hardly wore any of it.

Rosere · 31/01/2020 15:45

Comfortable shoes. You will walk about 2million miles. I had plain black skechers that went with everything (I think 😂) Some maxi or summer dresses, a hoodie, and some leggings and a jacket (to wear over hoodie) if you're heading to the canyon or thereabouts. Can be a bit nippy.
Vegas is not as dressed up as you would think. For the trip we made to a nicer restaurant I wore flat gladiator sandals with a maxi dress and a little denim jacket.
Enjoy. It is so much fun.

sweetheart · 31/01/2020 15:51

I've just checked the website for the restaurant and t does say attire - formal so i think I'll be ok to get dressed up there. I'm going to have to have a re-think wardrobe wise though. I'm not really a trainers kind of person - usually only wear trainers for the gym.

I suppose it depends where you are planning to go in the evenings as to how smart people are.
I went to Hyde Bellagio and another club, I think it was called XS, and fellow guests were incredibly well dressed. In the resort casinos/theatres less so.
I had to buy some (natural) tights over there for April as I was not prepared for the chilly evenings, and I never wear tights apart from opaques in winter.
Have fun.

sweetheart · 31/01/2020 16:01

We are going in February so I have thick black tights as part of my packing plan.

Evenings will be bar hoping, dinners. Maybe some activities like topgolf or segway / bus tour? One evening explore Freremont avenue area. We aren't doing a show.

Oh dear - i was planning to recaim my younger self / inner godess with some nice outfits - was thinking all leather, sequins, leopard print (not at the same time obvs!). At least dh will be happy that I'm sending back all the clothes I ordered and just digging out my old gear to wear!

OP posts:
sweetheart · 31/01/2020 16:01

oh - and no clubbing either.

OP posts:
BlairWaldorfLovesShopping · 31/01/2020 16:27

Went in 2014 so a few years ago, but honestly, I'd say anything goes. You will see people in jeans and t-shirts and also clubbing outfits and anything in between. I loved getting dressed up each evening to go out. I didn't take heels at all though, even walking through a hotel can be quite a distance. We went in May so it was pretty hot, so I can't comment on dressing for evening temps, but I'd definitely make an effort in the evenings, especially if you're staying at a nicer hotel (we stayed at the Wynn). Maybe faux leather leggings would be a good warm evening option?

Enjoy!

sweetheart · 31/01/2020 16:44

ok so I think I'm reverting to jeans and tshirts during the day but maybe something like leather skirt with thick black tights and boots with sparkly top for evening.

We also went in 2014 and anything goes really, it’s an amazing place that I love!

Tips - everything is so much cheapier off the strip, bottle of water was about 1/3 of the price by literally just walking to a shop off the main drag. Same with alcohol.

It’s a crazy place as you can walk into the casinos at daft o’clock in the morning and it’s like it’s the middle of the day in there!! It literally doesn’t sleep the place.

FromEden · 31/01/2020 16:58

I live in vegas. There are a few Walgreens/CVS on the strip, stock up on water and snacks there, as well as booze. It's a lot cheaper.

Yeah, most people here dont get super dressed up for a night out, except for clubs. Think skinny jeans or trousers, heels and a nice top/jacket and accessories. What is the nice restaurant you're going to?

I think you're being optimistic about the weather tbh. Right now it's still only in the low teens temperature wise and its warmer than usual. Last February we had snow! So plan for layering if it is chilly. And comfy shoes, you will walk so much.

sweetheart · 03/02/2020 09:27

Oh dear lord - I deffo had not considered SNOW!!!! Better add a couple of jumpers to that packing list!

We are going to the Eifel Tower restaurant.

chesterpester · 03/02/2020 09:32

Vegas is the place where you can have people in a hotel lobby wearing ball gowns, hiking gear & swimwear & no one bats an eyelid.

I went in May & it was cool & nippy at night so defo a leather/denim jacket. You can walk miles without leaving the hotel so comfy shoes a must.

I dressed up in the evenings, plenty of people dressed up for nights out. Day wear jeans, maxi dresses, shorts with sandals.

BlastEndedSkrewt · 03/02/2020 09:53

definitely comfy shoes, we did tons of walking - we went out to the clubs on a few occasions & dressed up & didn't feel out of place anywhere, there are people dressed up & people not dressed up - anything goes really.

I didn't take any heels at all, very much not a heel wearer

Enjoy, I absolutely loved it there - would recommended doing a helicopter trip to the Grand Canyon, fantastic experience

FromEden · 03/02/2020 16:50

Well the snow was a once in a decade event so I'm pretty sure it will be fine this year tbh. I dont think it will be in the mid 20s consistently though, that doesn't usually happen until april.

The Eiffel Tower restaurant is lovely. We went there for our anniversary a few years ago. Make sure you get a table overlooking the Bellagio fountains. You'll love it!

sweetheart · 04/02/2020 09:22

Phew - thanks From - slightly less worried about the snow possability now then! I'm certainly packing warmer than I had planned though so thanks for all the imput on the thread. I think I'm sorted with what to take - going mostly black with leopard and sequins as accents and a bit of black leather for texture. Jeans t-shirts and cardigan / jackets for daytime and either jeans with sequins for evening or leather shirt with camisole and cardigan plus of course a nicer dress for our posh meal out Grin

Thanks from what is the weather like in September? October? Also do stores have Halloween /fall items in at that time if year? X

FromEden · 23/02/2020 03:27

September is still quite hot, October less so but still in the mid 20s during the day usually for the first half of the month at least. Gets cooler towards Halloween. Yes the stores will have halloween stuff in from around the start of october.

1forAll74 · 23/02/2020 05:38

Vegas is brilliant for anything that goes really, You can walk the streets at night in a bikini if you want to, or a ball gown whatever.. All kinds of people go to Vegas, the rich and famous, and the people who just want to experience the place, or quickly get married there.. but there is no real dress code really, and the weather is rarely bad.

ruthieness · 23/02/2020 17:53

soufflé at the Eifel tower is epic!
they definitely insist on jackets for men - they have spares!
