Should I buy these?

Dr Marten Jadon boots

Had my eye on these for a while. Just hesitant about spending £170 on something that seems to be having (or had?) a trending moment - then being stuck with them once they’re out of style. Have I left it too late to properly enjoy them?

For context I have a lot of shoes/trainers so not planning on wearing these too often. I also want to cut down on how much I spend on fashion, I have a ridiculously large wardrobe as it is.

I’m short, so the platform is appreciated. Should I just buy a similar unbranded pair instead? I mainly want to wear them casually on the odd occasion with dresses/oversized blazers. Maybe during my commute to/from work if they’re comfortable enough, I’ve heard they’re a bit painful though. What do you think?

Dr Martens will never be 'out of style', they've been around for years & years!
I'd say go for it, black boots are a staple of any wardrobe Wink

If you like DMs better to get the actual branded boots as you can afford it rather than a cheaper pair..
I say this because as a 17 year old I wore a cheap unbranded pair of fake DMs in the 90s plus cheap unbranded trainers to school PE classes (the shame) & decided that once I was earning I would never wear cheap copies of footwear again!!

So anyway if chunky boots are your thing DMs don't really go out of style.
Personally I don't think DMs suit my style now so wouldn't wear them but if you like them & have outfits to go with them then get them.

I still wear DMs I bought 20 years ago. They’re a worthwhile investment. I’m not very keen on those particular ones though.

Doyouthinktheysaurus · 30/01/2020 18:02

Yes, definitely.

I have a glitter pair bought half price in the sale, I love them so much. I can't drive in them so don't wear them as often as I would like but I do love them.

I got DM Chelsea boots for Christmas. My red patent DMS have started cracking. They're about 7 years old Sad

Monty27 · 30/01/2020 19:09

Sorry OP. I prefer the Chelsea boots. Didn't quite answer your post properly. Smile

alittlepieceofme · 30/01/2020 19:19

What shoe size are you? I'm a size 4 so I bought children's DM's. You can't tell the difference and they are half he price!

MagicFormula · 30/01/2020 19:34

The only thing is I think the platform sole might date them so in a couple of years you might go off them. They are fab though!

MiniTheMinx · 30/01/2020 19:45

I live in DMs and have 3 pairs on the go. I bought this style just before Christmas, and sold them just after. They are heavy and no give in the sole, you are basically forced to walk flat footed, and whatever socks I wore the socke rubbed and disappeared into the boots. I wouldn't recommend them for comfort.

Gemma2019 · 30/01/2020 22:32

I love them. Have a look on eBay though as they come up on there a lot, sometimes half price for brand new

boymum9 · 30/01/2020 22:49

I have the jadons and love them! If you hold out Asos often do 20% off and they have them on there so makes them a bit cheaper!

They look great with the right kind of "mom" jeans and with midi skirts and dresses, I'm looking forward to wearing them in spring time!

People said they were a nightmare to break in and give awful blisters but I haven't had that problem, I did some research and I wear the little thin (like sheer tights material) ankle socks with a pair of the fluffy socks you can get in primark over the top (I just have black and they sit under top of boot so can't see them) and I haven't had any blisters at all!

justilou1 · 30/01/2020 22:52

Absolutely! I’m short and have the Rometty platform “Chelsea” boots and lived in them all winter. I find that the platform keeps you up off the cold ground and keeps your feet warmer than the regular sole.

dontgobaconmyheart · 30/01/2020 23:07

Everyone on mumsnet seems to think DM's are a wearable classic but I just don't think they look 'cool' or flattering on most (normal non modelly) people IRL and do seem a bit try hard. I was bought a pair for xmas a few years ago and never wore them as they rubbed hugely and were a bit clunky looking. I much prefer my leather biker boots and find them more flattering and versatile with outfits.

They're having a bit of a moment so I'd just save the money, get a leather biker boot and see how you yet on OP, after all if DM's are an eternal classic then they still will be next year or the year after etc

I’m a DMs fan but those platform ones just scream National Front to me. But if you like them then you should go for it. Personally I’d not bother with imitations - I know I’d always regret it.
