Home hair cut

So, my friend is staying this weekend and she is going to cut my hair as I can't afford a hairdresser!
It is currently below the shoulder and I want it cut at one length just below the hairline (chin length) so any handy hints for how not to feck it up?
If she does I will get it done properly on DH's credit card as he has offered but am loathe to pay unless I have to!

dodgy ground. all one chin length is really hard to do. Is there anyway you could afford a) either a mobile hairdresser as costs are not normally so extortionate or b)going to you local college (or local salon) and asking about being a model. The trainnees are well superivised but charge a fraction of the price.

No not asleep - up for hours pg insomnia. Don't do it unless they are a hairdresser! I have botched other peoples hair having a go - not worth it

I trimmed my daughters hair. The first time it looked okay the scond I really mucked it up and ended up haking loads off and had to take her to the hairdressers. I'm not doing it again. If you want your friend to do it get her to trim it forst to make sure she can cut in a straight line, as your going for chin length you're not really giving any lee way for mistakes.

Hmm..now I am worried! We were going to go a bit at a time so she can practise so if it is a bit longer than chin length I don't mind!

I cant get to a college easily for a haircut as have no-one to watch DD cos it's always when DH is working, plus I really don't give a shit about my hair, I'm just too hot and want it off my neck!

I used the cut my mother's hair and she mine and it was fine. Imo straight is very easy. My tips would be to first put the top layer (approx half) of your hair up. Then cut the bottom layer starting at the back, working your way around to the front, one side first, then the other. Every time you're cutting a section you include a bit of the already cut hair for guidance, iyswim. Then, looking from the front make sure that both sides are equal length. Finally, put all hair down and repeat the whole process for the top layer, making sure that you leave this top layer half a centimeter longer than the bottom one. If they're cut the same length the bottom layer shows from underneath and doesn't look good. Of course that if your hair is very fine and you don't have a lot, i.e. it's not very full, you don't need to do it in layers. If it's really really thick and you have a lot of hair maybe you need 3 layers.

Also, very good scissors make all the difference. it's very hard to cut straight otherwise.

Maybe try cutting it longer than you want to leave room for correcting if it's too uneven!

right i am a hairdresser

first you need two clips a comb and some very sharp scissors

then divide the hair into two from front to back then divde about 2 inches from hairline you need to tip your head forward

it will be easier to do wet

you comb the hair down and down so it lays against the head then cut

yo then take another inch and comb that down so that agains lays flat use the side of your hand to make sure it lays flat also to check its level do not sit with your legs crossed take the very ends of both sides and pll together into the centre to make sure they are level

carry on up to the crown taking sections an inch at a time

make sure you keep your head down this stops any graduation and makeas it look more professional

when you get to the sides tilt your head the opposite way to it being cut take an inch section over the ear

hold loosely over ear but make sure you the back as a guide
carry on to top as abefore then repeat on other side

check its level check its check its level

It went fantastic! Looks great and my head feels so much lighter, she cut about 5 inches off!
Shall put a picture on tomorrow so you can all critique....

I have my friend coming to help me make roast dinner today and she is a hairdresser and is going to to cut and dye my hsair for me and trim dd1s and shave dd2
