Please recommend a good body cream

Looking for recommendations!
I have VERY dry skin. I can use most things on my skin and I'm not sensitive to scents. I think after years of using body lotions of all types, I'm finding that I need something denser or thicker than a lotion. I've just used the Liz Earle Body Balm which was fab but quite pricey considering I used a tub in 2 weeks!
I've just moved onto a Body Shop tub of something or other that I'm not really feeling the love for.
Could you tell me your favourites?

Have you tried aveeno?

Marshmello · 27/01/2020 23:49

Biotherm. Apricot. Original. Dynamic. All good.

Clarins satin smooth.

Hydromol ointment. Amazing.

And of course Child's farm moisturiser!!! Magic stuff!

percheron67 · 27/01/2020 23:50

Sanctuary, now available I Sainsbury had a good range of dry skin things. It is not exy and has a lovely scent if you are going out and want to spray scent. Good range of things too.

Notthebloodygym · 28/01/2020 00:08

Aproderm!

Fozzleyplum · 28/01/2020 00:10

Aveeno with the blue top for extra dry skin is the best body cream I've ever used.

Darls3000 · 28/01/2020 00:11

The best lotion to leave your skin so so smooth and soft is Razac lotion. I think you can get it on eBay or amazon. Amazing and I promise you'll be delighted. Great price too and lasts for months. Sorted my dry elbows and knees and my arms are always very soft thanks to daily use after shower.

CooCooCoo · 28/01/2020 00:12

Just found myself and DD using child’s farm due to her eczema . It is brilliant, and I was sceptical

DeTwamps · 28/01/2020 00:13

I use baby oil when I'm still wet in the shower. 1 minute and you've rubbed it in all over. Just pat dry then.

DeTwamps · 28/01/2020 00:16

The best things I notice for my skin though are no alcohol, loads of water, 8 hours sleep. I also don't use harsh cleansers on me. I use a loofah (I think? One of those plasticy mesh things) and lather on Simple Nourishing Shower Cream. Rinse, then the baby oil and pat dry. Works for me and is super fast.

SpringFan · 28/01/2020 00:17

I love Superdrug Vitamin E body cream. Rubs in well, doesn't smell. I can't remember the last time my legs were dry and flaky.

SorryDidISayThatOutLoud · 28/01/2020 00:20

Thanks all, I am shopping on Wednesday so will look for all of these and get a couple to try.

I have dry skin and like the Body Shop hemp body butter.

DeTwamps · 28/01/2020 00:35

The Body shop stuff is expensive as you have to use too much of it. I only use that stuff for special occasions. It does smell nice though!

DeTwamps · 28/01/2020 00:36

And I'm always complimented (by ahem ahem men) how soft my skin is with my simple baby oil.

SarahBeeney · 28/01/2020 00:38

I've just bought some creams from
ceraVe as I've have read loads of good stuff about it. I'm really impressed so far.

DeTwamps · 28/01/2020 00:41

Lush do fabulous body creams and lotions too. I tend to only use them in areas I want to be scented though. If I'm being naughty, inside thighs, bikini line, under breasts, and neck.
But my baby oil goes all over after the shower.

Muminabun · 28/01/2020 05:34

I know it sounds counter intuitive but my skin is seriously so much better since I ditched shower gel and started using neste dante bar soap in the shower. I used to have dry skin on my body but I can now go without putting on body moisturiser if I can’t be bothered and my skin is fine. I then use ameliorate on my arms as it is so pricy and I have kp on my arms and I use Superdrug vit e and e45 lotion on rest of bod as an everyday.

BoreOfWhabylon · 28/01/2020 05:39

YY to washing with soap.

I slather with Palmers Cocoa Butter Formula Lotion - thick and rich and soaks in quickly.

PatricksRum · 28/01/2020 05:55

Cetraben cream or ointment.
Hydrogen ointment as pp said.

These have minimal ingredients and aren't like the perfumed beauty brands but skin care brands.

Fullbookcase · 28/01/2020 06:09

Palmers Cocoa Butter here too - lovely and thick, and sinks in beautifully, I use a lot during the winter months but it’s cheap so doesn’t matter! I get the unscented one so it doesn’t interfere with perfumes.

Marshmello · 28/01/2020 07:26

Child's Farm is on offer in Boots and Sainsbury's at the mo. Get the pale blue with pink hands - grapefruit and tea tree

Fozzleyplum · 28/01/2020 13:06

Another vote for soap here, too. I also use exfoliating gloves in the shower every day. The body cream moisturises much more effectively as a result.

Soap wise, I use any Nesti Dante, Nivea, Pears or Imperial leather sensitive. "Proper" soap seems less drying than shower gel and Dove bars.

florriepeck · 28/01/2020 14:11

Another vote for Palmer's Cocoa Butter, especially if, like me, you're more likely to use it daily because it's inexpensive.
Also tried Doublebase Gel after I read a glowing review by Sunday Times beauty writer, and I liked that, too: buy over the counter at pharmacy.
Like the sound of the Childs Farm moisturiser after reading about it on this thread; already like their sweet orange body wash for family use.

kemosabeimalone · 28/01/2020 14:15

I love o’keeffes body lotion in the winter - it’s the only thing that stops me getting central heating related itching on my ‘dry as a bone, shins yet is easily absorbed.

If you're in the mood for spending a small fortune OP, you could try Sol de Janeiro's Brazilian Bum Bum Cream - for bodies, not for bums as the name suggests!

I got a sample form Space NK and it was SO FABULOUS I treated myself to a proper-sized pot )admittedly I had a Space NK voucher, or I'm not sure I'd have taken the plunge, it's about £40. Bearing in mind my usual body cream is never anything more pricey than Body Shop yogurt ones on Buy one get one half price...

THe Bum Bum cream is just so lovely though, I'm going to be a bit bereft when I run out and can no longer really afford it (might eat tinned soup for a few weeks to cut my food budget Grin or something)

Smells a wee bit like Palmers but much much nicer (less sweet/sickly) though I do quite like Palmers.

Incredible consistency - leaves me smooth without any greasiness, and I avoid putting most otehr creams on my upper arms as I get spots - this cream can go on my upper arms no problem!

Basically I just bloody love it and just wish it was about 50% (minimum) cheaper!
