Fillers, how much to have?

Lambzig · 27/01/2020 13:17

I have an appointment booked this week to have facial fillers for the first time. I am a bit nervous about it so have asked to go quite slowly with it. At the consultation my dr suggested I go for a half syringe each side to start with if I want to go slowly. (She also described up to full non-surgical facelift level of use and options inbetween).

I wanted to ask how much people have, whether it’s better to start slowly or whether that is such a small amount it will not be worth doing.

Also how bad have you found bruising or swelling (pale skinned blonde here) please?

Go for it, filler is more natural and less permanent than hair dye :))

I hope you've done rigorous research and picked a good injector. No less than a doctor or dentist, a nurse at a push. Say away from beauticians, high chance of ending up botched.

For cheeks, 0.5ml each side should be enough. You can always top up later. Careful, cause putting too much in can result in the dreaded hamster cheek.

For lips, again, start slow. 0.5ml will be very subtle, but if you want more, it's best to let the skin stretch gradually. You'll be able to better control the filler then, and prevent that upper lip migration to some extent.

Be extremely careful with nasolabial fold injections. It's an outdated method which can very easily lead to that puffy, pillowy, swollen look if your practitioner isn't absolutely proficient.

I have a lot of experience with fillers, I get them done regularly. Feel free to PM me if you want to chat filler without the ridiculous judgement you're likely to find here.

I swell like a mofo for a couple of days, but i don't bruise. Some people bleed/swell/bruise, or any combination of the three. That's totally individual. Arnica and ice packs are your best friends here, and remember that hyaluronic acid LOVES water. So stay hydrated for best results.

I’m also having fillers for the first time next week. At the consultation I said I wanted tear trough and nasolabial folds done as I feel I’m getting that “hang-dog” look. But she suggested cheek fillers as an alternative for the exact reason @cavabiensepasser stated. She explained it just adds weight to the lower face area making it “heavier” whereas having the cheeks done lifts the face. She advised to then decide if I want tear troughs done afterwards.

Lambzig · 27/01/2020 18:22

Thank you so much. Really helpful on amounts, I just didn’t want to overdo it and then worried I was being too minimalist. Just getting cheeks done to correct that hang-dog look and considering tear trough.

Also hoping to hide it from very judgemental ex who I have to spend some time around next day.

MellowBird, we can swap stories in how we get on.

Mmm, it'll be hard to hide cheek filler. Prepare to look very extremely angular, Maleficent cheeks, until they settle

Anchovies12 · 27/01/2020 20:31

I had tear trough filler just after Christmas and it looks so good! Every morning I am shocked at how much more alive I look Grin No bruising or swelling, just two dots where the needle/cannula went in. It has made me very tempted to get more!

Bluntness100 · 27/01/2020 20:44

Cheek filler done well isn't maleficient cheeks 🤣

Op, basically the cheek bones are like the clothes hanger for your face. So by adding filler there it effectively lifts the rest up, reducing nasolabial folds.

She can go low, you see the result immediately and decide if uou want more. It's not like Botox where you need to wait a few days. It's also less detectable than Botox obviously.

DearHappy · 27/01/2020 20:45

I bruised badly and I looked awful for nearly a week and people noticed.

Bluntness100 · 27/01/2020 20:47

I'd also say tear duct filler is the riskiest. If your oractioner doesn't wish to do it, don't push them, google it.

Deariedrearyme · 27/01/2020 20:53

0.5 each side won't make a massive difference, you will be able to tell but other people won't and you certainly won't look like Malificent!

KatharinaRosalie · 27/01/2020 20:56

0.5 each side here and there was no bruising or swelling, could go straight out again. Just looked younger and fresher.

damnthatanxiety · 28/01/2020 09:24

I worry that filler in the cheeks to reduce nose to mouth lines will result in 'big face'. As the lines are due to fullness dropping lower in the face rather than a reduction in fullness, I fear that putting more fullness higher up will just mean too much fullness all over and ending up with a massive face a la Priscilla Presley or Kylie when she was over filling

cavabiensepasser · 28/01/2020 12:07

I looked a bit Maleficenty for a few days until the filler settled. Grin

MellowBird85 · 28/01/2020 18:00

Tbh I think Maleficent has fantastic cheekbones Grin Yes @Lambzig please report back when you’ve had them done!

Sugarfreejelly · 28/01/2020 18:04

I’ve had tear trough filler and I bloody love it. It’s made a huge difference to my face but without anyone noticing if that makes sense. It looks completely natural, I just look less tired. However, I use a Dr who specialises in aesthetics and does it full time. Don’t go to someone who does it as an extra bit of money on the side of practising medicine.

Lambzig · 28/01/2020 21:16

Thanks all. I am just going to have to hope that I am one of the ones that doesn’t swell or bruise too much then.

Definitely not going to do tear trough until I see how I react.

I have done my research and have been to her for Botox so I feel quite comfortable with it.

If you have cheek fillers you probably wont need tear trough fillers, mine looked amazing after having cheeks done

Lambzig · 01/02/2020 20:34

So, I did have it done. Bit ouch at times and I do have a little localised swelling which made my cheekbones a bit angular so I do get the Malificent comment. No bruising and a day later I am really pleased. My marionette lines are gone, my jawline looks tighter and I just look a bit less grumpy/sad/tired.

princessTiasmum · 03/02/2020 22:48

Best thing i have had done ,which made the biggest difference to how i look

damnthatanxiety · 04/02/2020 15:44

Lambzig is there any way you could post pictures? Just of the marionette lines and jaw before and after if you are not wanting to do whole face.

MellowBird85 · 05/02/2020 16:03

Good to hear you’re pleased with them @Lambzig. How much did you have? I had mine done today and had 1ml in each side.

HisBetterHalf · 05/02/2020 16:38

@Lambzig
Did you go for the 0.5 or did you opt for me? I so want to do this. I absolutely hate looking at myself in the mirror

HisBetterHalf · 05/02/2020 16:56

*for more

Lambzig · 07/02/2020 18:11

Sorry it’s taken ages. Really can’t do the photos thing sorry. I had half each side. Still pleased with it a week later but fear it’s a bit of a gateway drug to getting more done.
