Toddlers curly hair

Just wondering if anyone has any tips for caring for 13 month olds curly hair, it's a bit all over the place now it's getting longer. Curly at the back but it straightens out on top when washed/dried/brushed. Even if I don't brush it it doesn't make much difference. I shampoo it with baby shampoo and don't use conditioner. Should I use conditioner? detangling spray? Wait til he's older? Or just roll with it Grin. It goes curly all over when wet but the top always straightens and the back doesn't

My 3 year old is the same, hates getting hair brushed too so it ends up really tuggy! I use my conditioner in it and give it a good brush with a tangle teaser before I rinse it out. Brush from the ends and work your way up. I swear my neighbours must think she is being murdered!

It’s lovely Smile my kids both had hair like this, I don’t think you need to do anything special. I started using conditioner once my dd’s hair got longer and I use detangling spray (child’s farm) before brushing it as it gets knotty at the back after lying on it all night.

I'll try a bit of conditioner and using a comb instead of a brush. It is dead cute it just sometimes looks a bit messy and I never know what to do with it. Maybe a bit of conditioner will help smooth it out a bit? I'll give it a whirl

Both of my children (4 and 2) have hair like this. I only use conditioner to wash it (I use shampoo maybe once every couple of weeks if they are particularly dirty!). Only ever comb it (wide tooth comb) when it has conditioner on it in the bath, or in the morning I spray it wet and use leave in conditioner - I find Curly Ellie stuff is great as it isn’t too heavy for this sort of hair, I find a lot of other ‘curly’ stuff weighs it down and makes it greasy as it’s designed for coarser, drier hair.

Silk pillowcase will stop it going frizzy/fluffy overnight or at nap times, I know it sounds ridiculous for a small child but DD has mixed Caucasian/Afro hair and if I didn't have silk pillowcases I would spend my entire life getting knots out!

I use a combination of tangle teaser and Afro combs for getting knots out with tons of Cantu conditioner.

@nocluewhattodoo
What Conditioner do you use please?

NopeNotToday5 · 27/01/2020 18:34

Never mind just seen you have said what you use.

I have started using a silk pillowcase case after nocluewhattodoo posted on a similar thread that I started. It has made such a difference, no more matted hair in the morning. I am also washing with conditioner and using a wide tooth comb
