New job, what to wear?

I start tomorrow. It’s in the care industry but not physical care. No uniform. It’s through an agency so I’ve never been on site and don’t know what staff wear. The agency just said “casual ish” when I asked. Any idea what this might mean? I’ve recently put weight on so have a limited amount of clothes that fit and don’t want to buy new as I’m dieting so I really need to work with what I have, which makes things harder...
Any photos of the type of outfit that might work would be appreciated, or suggestions. Thanks.

Let's start with what you have. What are your options. I work in an NHS office environment and pretty much anything from smart jeans upwards goes.

I would take casual ish to mean no jeans but basically anything else as long as it is clean and tidy. I feel your pain though as I temp in a variety of settings and it is always awkward not knowing how smartly to dress.

If I was completely unsure and someone said "casual-ish" I would wear chino or corduroy trousers, a jacket with a thinnish jumper underneath with nice earrings and flat shoes. Then if it's really casual I could take the jacket off, if it's a bit more business like I would have the jacket on to smarten it up.

My last job I had uniform. Previously I wore smart trousers and a jumper, but they’re boot cut, dated and possibly too small! Plus I wore them with chunky heeled boots and I don’t know if heels are ok...
I have some straight legged pale grey trousers, but wouldn’t know which shoes... I have brown or black ankle boots (with heels) or black slip on sneaker type things (too casual?).
I have black skinny jeans but don’t know if jeans are out?
Black wide legged summer trousers (very light weight, may be too cold, not sure what I’d pair with in winter?)

I would wear the grey trousers with the black heeled ankle boots. May be take the black trainers in a bag to change into if you end up thinking they were more appropriate?

Casual-ish could mean anything.

I would err on the side of smartness on the first day (ideally with a smart jacket that you could take off if too smart) and then take your lead from others once you've seen what casual-ish actually means there.

Good luck!
