What to wear that's comfortable but stylish ( not joggers)?
Will be arriving in the June heat of Rome.

I would say joggers, pockets!!!

Where are you flying from? Do you mean that you want an outfit for a long flight? I am not sure what an "airport outfit" is otherwise. If you are flying from somewhere in Europe, I would just wear normal clothes. The flight will only be a few hours long.

PH30B3 · 25/01/2020 17:08

I always wear my big blanket scarf to travel find it so helpful to be able to cover myself up. Other than that airport outfit is something I've never thought of!

florriepeck · 25/01/2020 17:37

Only a short flight ( from UK).

I got to thinking about it when I was looking at a fashion website with a section on "airport outfits".
I,too, would have just thought normal clothes would be okay.

linen trousers, teeshirt and a cardigan, airplanes get cold.

MyuMe · 25/01/2020 17:45

A dress. It's a 2-3 hour flight from London.

It will not be cold here nor there in June

KatharinaRosalie · 25/01/2020 19:13

just wear clothes. I would only consider special outfits if it's a long haul flight where you want to sleep and be comfortable. I never bother with anything special for short haul.

StarlightLady · 25/01/2020 19:46

For flying? Loose sundress. Avoid linnen. It will be screwed up by the time you take off, let alone get off the other end. Cardigan on standby.

reluctantbrit · 25/01/2020 20:20

Trousers, short sleeve top and hoodie/cardigan. Maybe not demin but a more chino style as they are less hot when you arrive.

I wouldn't do a dress, bare legs are cold on a plane and tights are hardly matching a summer dress.

Tartyflette · 25/01/2020 20:34

I can remember when (mid-1960s) you absolutely had to look ‘smart’ to fly.
Parents lived abroad, I was at boarding school, so a succession of aunts would take me shopping for a suit, handbag, kitten heels, polyester blouse etc etc.
I still have a photo of me coming down the steps of a plane at Frankfurt airport, a stopover, looking like I’d been ridden hard and put away wet, as the saying goes. Hair all over the place, suit creased to buggery and clutching my handbag like our own dear Queen. I look about 35. I was 13 then AFAICR.

Thank god it’s different now, be comfortable above all else. Dress and cardi/pashmina if the plane gets cold. Or loose trousers and top. Very comfy shoes or trainers.

XingMing · 25/01/2020 21:06

Going to Rome. What you'd wear at home on a hot day, with a layer to remove on arrival.

Reginabambina · 25/01/2020 21:09

I always fly in linen maxi dresses with layers (I almost always fly from heat to cold or vice versa). One pair of over the knee socks and one pair of ankle socks and ankle boots. And a big backpack for coat/scarf etc.

FairyBunnyAgain · 25/01/2020 21:21

Last had airport wear in the mid 90s going on honeymoon, no ideas why really but I remember having cream linen trousers, with a matching jacket, I arrived in the Carribean very creased after 8+ hours in economy, sensible DH wore his jeans and a tshirt

Now for European summer flights usually Capri or ankle length trousers with nice top (not a plain t or vest) and a cardi with sandals.

Other seasons long trousers and whatever shoes and outerwear I need for where I am going.

Long haul always trousers with stretch and preferably and elastic step waistband with a 3/4 sleeve blouse plus cardi and a wrap, with sock and trainers. If over 8 hours more likely to be smart yoga pants.

MiniGuinness · 25/01/2020 21:29

What would be your typical train outfit? Or car outfit? Just wear that .

MyuMe · 25/01/2020 21:50

Planes aren't always cold. Recent flight to South Africa was so hot peoples cheeks were still red having departed the plane and queuing in the airport toilet

Lucked · 25/01/2020 21:52

I wear trousers because even within Europe I put on flight socks (Since pregnancy I get puffy ankles really easily) and I don’t want to flash my bandaged legs in a dress. I have worn harem in the past but think it will be naice joggers this year.

Flights within the UK I just what ever I fancy, usually jeans so I have them with we.

MinesaPinot · 25/01/2020 22:22

For the last couple of times I've flown (to Greece so 3.5 hour flight) I've worn printed pull on wide leg trousers with a toning t-shirt and pasmina/scarf and cropped denim jacket with either my Guess trainers or slip on skater shoes. If I've got room in hand luggage I put a pair of slip on flats which I put on just before we land.

JaceLancs · 25/01/2020 23:41

I wear a stretchy jersey dress and cardigan, pack a lightweight scarf/shawl in case I get chilly on plane, toms or sandals

AlexaAmbidextra · 26/01/2020 07:10

looking like I’d been ridden hard and put away wet,

😂😂😂 Never heard this before. Fabulous!

Weepingwillows12 · 26/01/2020 07:15

I never heard that either but it's hilarious. Is it as rude as it sounds or a horsey reference?

DisgruntledGuineaPig · 26/01/2020 07:36

I dont like airport outfits as a concept, as they generally involve an outfit of clothes you wont actually wear on holiday, and I believe my holiday clothes should work hard!

I tend to go for a stretchy dress with a cardie and trainers, with tights if it's cold in the uk (take these off in the aeroplane loos, it wont be cold when you land). Assume you will walk a long distance between being dropped at the uk airport and arriving in your hotel room, so comfy footwear is a must.

Dont wear a lot of jewellery, you'll only have to take it off for security checks.

I tend to go with a small cross body bag (that will be my evening beg on holiday), that holds phone, purse, passport and kindle, the a rucksack I can fit said cross body bag into if I need to. Given the distances you end up walking, dc2 has often been tired last few times weve travelled by plane and needed carrying, having free hands, not having to hold a bag is good.

Think about your outfit for coming home though, so many times I've left a hotel at mid afternoon when its roasting, and by the time we're all through to looking for the car at Heathrow its 11pm, fucking freezing and we're all in shorts and t-shirts shivering. This year I will be the organised mum with a bag of joggers and hoodies to put the dcs in on the plane (and leggings to go under sun dress for herself)

Tartyflette · 26/01/2020 07:51

Horsey!

Fairylea · 26/01/2020 07:58

Rome is full of tourists in hoodies, jeans, trainers and t shirts with backpacks - we went for our honeymoon a few years ago. I wouldn’t even worry about what to wear. It will be boiling in the summer - shorts and a t shirt or a loose dress will do!

Gwilt160981 · 26/01/2020 08:00

Last time I went abroad I wore a dungeree dress, t-shirt and a cardi with some flats. (Well trainer shoes)
