Comfortable, casual but non-dorky shoes...?

Help! I need a pair of shoes I can wear for walking around all day, which are comfortable but not totally dorky. And possible to wear in the rain. And ideally a little bit supportive as I have very flat feet. And I’ve just turned 40, so don’t want to look too old/too young (I know, I know).

I have a pair of black ankle boots but they aren’t comfortable enough to wear all day.

I have running trainers with nice squishy heel inserts, which are very comfortable but surely mega dorky if you’re not running (I currently only wear them for actually running).

Vans/Converse seem a bad idea if it’s at all damp underfoot (ie most of the year in England).

I have ballet flats but they’re not comfortable for a whole day.

What do people wear?! What should I get?

I have 3 pairs of Stan Smiths and none of them are white! I have nude, charcoal grey and denim blue.

What about Dr Martens? I have literally lived in mine since I got them a few months ago. So comfy, sturdy and are really fashionable and go with everything. I got the Pascal soft leather ones and they needed zero breaking in, they were mega comfortable from day 1.

Have a look at Camper.

Well Clark's and Skecher's are fine as long as you don't mind spotting your shoes on someone very much older than you. They will not be admired as fashionable. People want to think they are because they are so comfortable.

But who cares if comfort is more your concern than style?

And teacher daughter wearing them for work says everything you need to know.

uncomfortablydumb53 · 25/01/2020 15:22

All my shoes are Clark's I have a disability and need supportive footwea, but I do have a sense of style too!
Have a look at their flat styles on website.I guarantee you will be pleasantly surprised

@myidentitymycrisis - pretty much always skinny jeans plus top / jumper. Then skinny jeans plus thinner top, or dress in summer. So these are mostly to go with skinny jeans tbh!

Re comfort vs style - I’m not exactly the most fashionable person, but I don’t want to look like a total lost cause. But I definitely don’t suffer for beauty (eg no high heels, or pointy toed shoes which squish your toes - although I’m also taller than the average woman so don’t particularly want / need extra height anyway).

Right, on a mission to go to the shops tomorrow to see what I can find - think some kind of leather type trainers. Thanks v much for all the advice so far - will post a pic if successful!

Kickers? They have a supportive footbed, they're non-dorky and they have all the colours and styles you could want. Also waterproof.

AtleastitsnotMonday · 26/01/2020 17:36

I’ve just bought these mint velvet trainers.
I love them!

Popuppippa · 26/01/2020 17:50

Veja - they look good with dresses, jeans, trousers

Clarks do a rip off version called Un Maui Lace (for all the teacher daughters out there Grin) They're really well made in lovely leather.

I wear New Balance 410 in plain navy, really comfortable and they look good with jeans.

Trogged round a load of shops, various places didn’t have my size even when I eventually found something I vaguely liked, and finally got these. And I don’t care if they are dorky as they were the only ones which I liked plus fitted. I am too embarrassed to admit which shop they were from as it’s definitely Too Old for me...Blush

Altho after this thread I now really want some leather/faux leather metallic silver/gun metal silver trainers too - the hunt continues!

They are lovely!
Are they from Ecco?
You wouldnt know if so.

dontgobaconmyheart · 27/01/2020 19:26

Pretty sure I've seen those in M&S- I don't think it's anything to be embarrassed about OP, trainers are trainers I think.

I wear my trainers often with outfits and my 13 & 15 year old nieces assure me they're cool - I'm 32 and consider that young. Of I really want to be comfy on my feet all day I fondue trainers or leather biker boots with some insoles. Not a fan of Clark's, they never get the shapes quite right IMO.

LilyJade · 27/01/2020 22:06

If I'm not at work I wear either my brown (fake) fur lined cosy biker boots from (ahem) Tesco; my grey chunky heeled boots from New Look; or my white & rose gold Adidas Superstars from Office.
All comfy & not frumpy either.

White leather or fake leather trainers are actually quite easy to clean I find.
