Which trainers would you recommend?

I am on the hunt for the perfect pair of trainers - for the past few years, I have tended to wear super cheap plimsolls or imitation Converse from Primark / Amazon but though I quite like the look they are neither warm nor particularly comfortable. I am currently on maternity leave so spending a lot of time pounding the streets with DC2 in the buggy and my feet are always freezing!

I would ideally like some trainers that I can wear with a variety of trouser shapes - harems (while on mat leave), leggings, skinny jeans and wide leg trousers (once I go back to work). Trainers that look decent with tights and a dress / skirt would be a bonus! Ideally warmer and more comfortable then my current cheap shoes, and I would like to look reasonably stylish - but I have no idea what is currently stylish when it comes to trainers! I am in my late thirties and would describe my style as classic / clean - lots of plain colours, neutrals, simple shapes - I love the way Meghan Markle dresses.

Not keen on Converse (not comfortable), Vans (ditto) or Superga (made my feet look like clown feet) which I have had in the past. I am willing to pay a bit more but I would probably prefer to spend less than £100 as currently on maternity leave. Does anyone have any recommendations?

I have Adidas gazelles, Adidas sambarose are my favourites though.

I’ve got Nike Air Force 1s, silver Converse, white Adidas Gazelle and for sport New Balance.
The gazelles are awful as were all the other Adidas styles I tried like superstar and Stan smith. Just so uncomfortable.

I’ve got Puma Carinas. Comfy with a thickish sole but not in your face and fairly cheap. Cali is also popular but I wasn’t keen on the holes on top.

They're not very cutting-edge but agree with PPs that Stan Smiths are both comfy as hell and pretty flattering. Mine have a dark blue flash which isn't for purists but does go with everything!

I also have the leopard M&S ones above and get complimented on them all the time. I have 3 pairs of M&S trainers, in fact and all are incredibly comfortable and equally admired in public.

Adidas Superstars also reliable favourites, and have just bought some black Nike Internatonalists which are wearing very well so far.

@GrimDamnFanjo I have huge (size 9), wide feet and they are happy as Larry in all of the above Smile

I’m personally not a fan of Stan smiths or Air Force ones (or all white trainers for that matter). I would recommend something like the retro reeboks or new balance for what you have described as liking/needing.
I love those sock style trainers, Adidas had a really nice pair out a couple of years ago I really liked but never got round to buying and I can’t find them now. Classic converse high tops are still a staple but can be cold. I also love vans half cabs (more padded than regular vans and warmer). Some of the Nike runner style shoes are nice, but beware of the ‘foam’ type soles. I find they create a lot of static and anytime I wear my Nike Roche’s (with the foam type sole) I am forever getting little electric shocks. Pushing a trolly round the supermarket is the worst for this, combination of tiled floors, foam soles and metal trolly = electric shock every 2 minutes.

I bought Stan Smith's last summer after seeing them recommended on here and they are honestly the mosy comfortable shoes I've ever had! Took a bit of wearing in but they are amazingly squishy. I was wearing Superstars before which are also very good but the shell toe was making it feel heavy on my feel.

Have a look at the converse dainty trainers. They are the same kind of style as the traditional ones but not as chunky. I’ve had mine for 3 years now and love them! They go with everything.

I'd vote against Vejas too. I have some and I've never managed to properly wear them in. They're really solid and uncomfortable. I saw some nice leather trainers in the Mint Velvet sale today that I'm thinking I might buy.
