How to make my hats stay!

I am a hat person.

Love them intensely, feel about 85% more myself with one on....

I have several that I adore, but since I live in a fairly windy part of the world, I never seem to get to wear – specifically my lovely wide-brimmed felt fedoras.

They have these farty little ribbons inside that supposedly adjust the size, but as soon as I tie them and put them on, the knots slide and it's as though nothing ever happened.

Any other hat-lovers around with tips/tricks for me?

No milliners to be found on my little island, unfortunately.

Hatpin?

What about attaching/sewing in a chin strap? Something like this one:

Hat pins, or sewing a thin elastic in to go under your hair, I love a hat pin though!

Hatpins always seem to just slide around in my hair – maybe because it's not very thick?

Maybe I need to glue a slide to the inside band so it's a more secure clip...

I make little holes in the band and push through a hair pin thing on each side. Then attach those to hair. It allows for proper positions of the hat and a good degree of windproofedness.

Maybe this is just a makeshift version of a hat pin though??

You need hat reducers.
They're bits of cork or foam that you push into the inside seam to make it snug. Cheap as chips and works brilliantly.
