Style this dress for me please

I've just bought This dress.

I have strappy sandals I can wear it with but I really want to wear it with biker boots or DR Martins.

Will either of them go with it without looking stupid? Either with or without tights.

I'm sick of what I wear and want a few things to try to get out of this rut.

Any ideas please or would biker boots look soft?

I would definitely wear that with biker boots it would work well, it looks good with tights and chunky socks.

This isn't the best photo but you can kind of see how it looks.

Pencil skirts require dainty shoes, clunky boots would look really odd.

Thank you 😊

I have to say that yes if you are following style 'rules' then dress and skirts shouldn't be worn with chunky shoes but fashion is about mixing textures and styles.
There's something about the contrast between having chunky solid boots with a pretty dress that works or in my mind does!

I don’t know, I would need to see the dress paired with the boots. My gut instinct is no, but it might work with black tights and a jacket to pull it together. I don’t think it’s the right sort of dress though, it’s too structured. I think chunky boots work better with a looser kind of dress. I’ve attached some pictures of what I mean.

It would look all wrong with DM or chunky boots. This dress calls for more delicate shoes.

BilboBercow · 22/01/2020 17:42

Yeah you can't wear chunky boots with a pencil. That won't work

Fanniesyeraunt · 22/01/2020 17:42

Nah, if you’re a dm type of person that dress could look good with them and black tights. It’s got that retro look. Depending how tall you are though it could make you look dumpy because of where the dress hits the knee, I think flat chunky boots tend to look better with shorter dresses. Nice dress though, I like the shape.

BestestBrownies · 22/01/2020 17:52

I have to agree with pp that the dress is the wrong style for chunky boots, sorry. That look tends to work best with floaty rather than fitted.

TheQueenBeyondTheWall · 22/01/2020 17:56

Maybe I will get some boots and see what it looks like and if it makes me look dumpy I will put the dress away till it gets a bit warmer.

It might as I am 5 6. I'm not small but not particularly tall either.

I want some chunky boots though! Not DM's I'm not a fan but they do look good on other people I just think they would look ridiculous on me.

Anyone have any boot recommendations?

No it's too long for biker boots

Dylaninthemovies1 · 22/01/2020 18:03

Do you have a link to the dress?

Lucked · 22/01/2020 18:19

I would wear it with boots but not biker boots. I wear biker boots with floatier dresses in a ditsy print, like I am trying to recapture my youth and my grunge days.

MoltonSilver · 22/01/2020 20:09

I think the length is probably wrong for chunky boots.

TheQueenBeyondTheWall · 29/01/2020 20:30

Well the dress came. Too tight over my boobs. I looked flat chested.

Too big over the stomach and bum. That has never happened it's usually the other way round.

But I did buy some patent leather dr martens and omg I love them. They are fabulous. I wore them today with leggings and I love them. Can't believe I haven't tried them till now.
