Zara Sizing ridiculous

jgs44 · 21/01/2020 08:34

Looking for a warm faux fur lined parka type jacket/coat. Searched on line and found just what I wanted at Zara. Sizing was in small, medium, large, XL and XXL. I didnt know which size would fit me so decided to go into town and try it on. So pleased to find that Zara had a good selection of sizes of this jacket. I am a 14 in most shops, and sometimes a 16. I started on a large, way way too small. Eventually tied the XXL still too small. Dont they have any sizing standards/ conformaty at all? This was the first and last time I will look to Zara for clothes!

I’m a a 12 and their medium fits me in everything. Never had an issue with their sizing. It may have been the cut of the coat?

ambereeree · 21/01/2020 08:43

I'm a 10/12 on top and M is fine. Was the cut a tight fit?

DillBaby · 21/01/2020 08:47

That’s just what Zara is like. The clothes are tiny.

Idontkowmyname · 21/01/2020 08:47

XXL is probably the equivalent of a small 14-16 so no guarantees it would fit. I agree with you that there is so much inconsistency between shops and in some instances even within shops.

ScarlettBlaize · 21/01/2020 08:48

The European shops tend to come up small. I like desigual but I'm a small rather than xs there whereas I'm generally an 8 in uk sizes.

Elbeagle · 21/01/2020 08:52

I’m a 10/12 and medium fits fine.

Youngatheart00 · 21/01/2020 08:53

I think it depends on the item and the cut. European brands do run small though. I really struggle with jeans / trousers and have to upsize one or sometimes 2 sizes to get into them!!

icannotremember · 21/01/2020 08:53

Zara is just smaller than other shops. I've lost 3 stone recently and am finding clothes shopping hilarious, I can be anything from a 10 in some shops to a 16 or equivalent in others. Even within shops there is such variation.

SleepingInYourFlowerbed · 21/01/2020 08:56

Do you have big boobs? Zara don't leave much room for boobs. I'm a 10-12 and fit a medium in Zara mostly but sometimes need a large if it's cut snug on the boobs

readingismycardio · 21/01/2020 09:00

I find it okay, I'm a size 8-10 and for jackets i get a medium

Megan2018 · 21/01/2020 09:01

I have never managed to buy a single item in Zara. I’m a good 12 usually (bigger now up top due to BF) and 5ft 4. Nothing fits where it should sadly, my curves are always in the wrong places. Lovely clothes but it just depresses me!

thedevilinablackdress · 21/01/2020 11:53

Some shops just don't work for your shape. Zara, Mango and the like no good for me especially for trousers!

MinesaPinot · 21/01/2020 13:27

I love Zara. Curvy 14/16. I wear L or XL in nearly everything in there - mainly dresses and tops. Having hips, belly and bum I never buy their trousers or skirts. And having wider feet I have trouble sometimes with their shoes. And I can't buy their long boots as I've got muscly calves due to years of fitness/dance.

But I do love Zara!

Bitchbadgerplease · 21/01/2020 13:29

I'm a size 10-12 but athletic so my shoulders often require a larger size. I bought a Zara catsuit in a 12MASSIVE! No way can I wear it, it would look ridiculous. I think their sizes are just ski-wiff op.

Chochito · 21/01/2020 13:30

Size 14 to 16 is XXL in Spain. I live here and very, very few people are that large.

My mum adores Zara as clothes from some of the other high street stores are too big for her, even in what they call a "size 6" (compare it to an historic size 10 or 12 from a charity or vintage shop, and they're identical).

Agree with previous posters that everyone has shops where the clothes fit them better, according to height and body shape and distribution.

2monstermash · 21/01/2020 13:34

I'm a large 10 (but not 12) and wear those numbers or Small or Medium.

Perhaps the cut makes it on the short side.

2monstermash · 21/01/2020 13:35

Chochito is right - ladies in Spain don't really get to size 14-16.

If they are they're older so wouldn't shop there anyway.

HetHetHet · 21/01/2020 14:50

I recently bought lots in the Zara sale - my purchases covered S, M and L. Different items fitted in different sizes so I had to try everything on based on how it looked, rather than the size on the label.

Rachelfromfriends1 · 21/01/2020 16:46

To the contrary I find that generally their clothes are too oversized (on a petite height at least).

So many of their shirts fit like dresses on me.

They have beautiful coats/jackets but even the XS is massive sometimes. They currently have a popular nude padded cropped puffer jacket in, I tried it on and genuinely looked like a sumo wrestler - but all the influencers on Instagram look amazing in it!

DisinterestedParty · 21/01/2020 16:50

Just because it doesn't fit you doesn't mean the sizing is ridiculous.

I'm the opposite way, most clothes drown me, there are very few places that do clothes for short, narrow people in the UK but Zara is fine for me.

Just shop somewhere else.

GrumpyHoonMain · 21/01/2020 16:53

I am a size 14/16 and find L or XL perfect at Zara

Supersimkin2 · 21/01/2020 16:58

Zara cuts for short thin women. Even then they're not remotely consistent. I score terrific bargains in sales by buying the 'wrong' size that I can tell will fit me, not the person for whom it was labelled.

A lot of their fabrics are listed online as having elastane - ie a bit of skim and/or give - but when you get the item it has none.

castlesfromtherubble · 21/01/2020 17:05

Zara is one of the few shops that I can order from using their app and be fairly confident that what arrives will be the correct size.

As opposed to, for example, H&M where I can take a size 16 in jeans and a XS in jumpers. It's just pot luck with them.

I do wish that in the Zara app they would tell you what size the model is wearing. The give his / her height which can be helpful, but knowing what size they're wearing really is useful when ordering.

Yes, lots of websites (H&M, Missguided, ASOS I think) do this and it's really useful.

I'm slim but tall (5'8) and agree Zara clothes are generally cut for shorter women. I tried on a coat in there today in size Small and it was a good fit, but not long enough in the leg. Whereas the Small size dresses in Desigual were huge, I was swimming in them. I'm sure their Small used to be a perfect fit on me. - I think they've changed the sizing.

Totally agree l. I'm a short , thin woman (5'0 size 6) and can't shop from Zara. Would absolutely love to but gutted I can't , and find they get bigger every year as around 10 years ago the Xs was small enough . My sister is a size 10 and wears XS.
