Up for advice for mature student nurse

Isadora2007 · 20/01/2020 16:14

I have dark and very thick shoulder length hair. As I’m a student nurse I have to be able to stick it up- but I’m feeling like the “scrapes off my face and mum bun” look is making me look frumpy and not the professional look I’d like to go for.
Any ideas for simple but nice looks that aren’t too youthful? Thank you

That title was meant to say “up DO” advice 😬

Too short and it'll be falling in your face and annoying you as you work. Unless you go super short. I'd be asking a good hair dress for advice I think, difficult to say without seeing

I have quite a few friends that are nurses and they never have an issue🤷🏼‍♀️ it’s hard to imagine your problem without photos

Maybe instead of scraping it back, put it in a neat centre parting and go for a low ponytail or bun.

If you wear your hair back most of the time, don’t go too high or too tight as you risk hair breakage/hair falling out. Maybe near where your ears are rather than the top of your head.

I'm a nurse - I've had my hair in a very short Bob once so it didn't need tying up but I found it really irritating and not very practical.
Mine is shoulder length and I wear it up in a messy bun or using one of those butterfly type clips things and lift it quite high up on my head.

Sorry I mean a claw clip. Have a look at claw clip up dos on Pinterest.

I'm an HCA. I'm 43 with fine longish blonde hair.

I usually tie it up in a low ponytail or loose bun using a scrunchie (they're in fashion & they are soft so stop hair breakage). I get them in Accessorize or Primark.
I usually add a hair slide as I'm growing out my fringe. I bought some pearly slides in Zara.

I always add hairspray to keep it neat.

I'm in my 50's hair tied up all day at work, mines curly so before the end of a 12 hour shift I look like I've been dragged through the hedge. We all look frunpy with it tied up, but it's necessary.
Clean and tidy is the aim, frumpy can still be clean and tidy.

Another nurse with shoulder length hair here. I just tie it all back in a ponytail every day. I have layers just long enough to tie back without needing extra clips. I couldn’t work with hair around my face, as some can, it would drive me crazy!

Isadora2007 · 21/01/2020 21:34

@Ellapaella thank you- claw clasp was just the kind of thing I wouldn't have thought of myself.
Thanks to everyone else. Good call on the scrunchie (cant believe they’re back in fashion though so am not sure if I’m a bit too old as I recall them first time round!) for breakage.
Also will ask my hairdresser when I next go... thank you all though, some good ideas to at least try.

I wear my hair in a bun, low ponytail, claw clip and french plat. Halo

I do two French braids in my hair (which is layered and shoulder length) then stick them into a messy bun. Keeps it all of my face and looks (mostly!) neat!

Another nurse here. I used to do the messy bun and end up looking like Mrs trunchbull by the end of the shift.

I've now got a bob. I use a claw clip to keep most of it out of my face. I think it makes me look a bit older but ultimately its neat and out of the way (and off my collar as per infection prevention rules).
