SPF moisturiser for after Retinoid?

PickleBottomNo3sMum · 20/01/2020 09:21

I’ve got a bottle of The Ordinary Retinoid in Squaline which works well on my wrinkles so now need recommendations for a decent, good value everyday moisturiser with SPF. I’m 40+ with quite dry skin and usually buy my moisturiser from Aldi (various special buys).

I know it’s so wrong but I normally try to avoid daily creams with SPF as I find them too greasy and suncreamy. I really need to change this and would appreciate your recommendations.

I just use a day cream with an SPF in it. I know exactly what you mean about the heaviness of sun creams though (and I find it with a lot of moisturisers too). At the moment I use the Olay Total Effects Featherweight moisturizer.

I use Biore Watery Essence SPF 50 OVER my moisturiser. It’s brilliant & cheap. It’s like a soft gel consistency but dries smooth, not tacky and I love that I can wear my normal moisturiser underneath. Amazon sell it.

MaggieFS · 20/01/2020 09:38

I also use Olay Featherweight! Love it. Not at all greasy and I only ever buy it when it's on half price (seems to be especially Superdrug and Morrison's)

lolaflores · 20/01/2020 09:47

This is exactly what I need. The titanium oxide in sunscreen clog up my pores and give me horrible lumps of spots.
I am ordering the biore stuff. I want something light but with protection. Thanks all xx

PickleBottomNo3sMum · 20/01/2020 10:50

Thanks the biore sounds promising as does the olay - I’m wondering if it’s featherweight enough to use with my normal moisturiser?

I use the Biore one too. Aldi caviar day cream first and then spf. There isn’t enough SPF in day creams/make up if you’re using retinoids and Vitamin C.

chesterfuckingdrorrs · 20/01/2020 10:58

La roche posay anthelios ultra light is fab. It's a really thin liquid, doesn't feel heavy or look greasy and sits well under make up. It comes in SPF 30 & 50

PickleBottomNo3sMum · 20/01/2020 12:38

Good point re SPF in day creams user1471428628

Chester, funnily enough I already use larocheposay in the summer and it’s v good but still find it a tad too greasy for winter when I’m not out in the sun.

Biore watery essence here, too. Doesn't irritate my combination, acne-prone, dehydrated skin. Doesn't make me look shiny & greasy. It seems pricey for a small tube but a little bit actually goes a very long way. No unpleasant smell, & no stickiness, or stinging if you get it on your eyelids (some do). I buy it on ebay from a high-rated seller in Japan, cheaper than Amazon.

lolaflores · 20/01/2020 13:21

Ordered the biorè. I have used the anthelios before it it did sti g my eyes and it didnt feel comfortable. My skin is a it of a bugger bow in my 50s. Suddenly, stuff irritates when it didnt before. The lighter the better.

ScrummyDiva2 · 20/01/2020 14:14

I use Heliocare 360 oil free gel. It's spf 50, non greasy, and goes under moisturisers/makeup really well.

missfliss · 20/01/2020 14:19

I also use heliocare - but the fluid cream version

WineAt4pm · 20/01/2020 14:56

Beauty Pie do a brilliant spf, tbh it's the only one I've ever found that isn't at all greasy. I use it as a base under my makeup every day.
I wouldn't see spf in moisturiser or foundation as enough to help prevent aging even without using retinol, I think it's best to use a proper one.

kmini · 20/01/2020 18:52

Love biore too

PickleBottomNo3sMum · 20/01/2020 20:19

The heliocare also sounds good. Is it a Greek brand?

Will also look at beauty pie.

Lots of good suggestions, thanks v much everybody 😄

Biore for me too. It's great and doesn't clog up my skin at all.

Azura2019 · 21/01/2020 11:19

Could you post a like of the Biore one please?
Does it work in combination skin? Thank you x

lindyloo57 · 21/01/2020 17:14

AdwBovril could you post a link to the ebay seller, I would to buy some Biore sun cream but never sure which seller to go with.

eurochick · 21/01/2020 19:09

I buy from Amazon. It takes a couple of weeks to ship though.

Abibranning · 21/01/2020 19:16

I use the neutrogena ultra sheer dry touch, really good under make up, but I am as pale as snow.

Absoluteunit · 21/01/2020 19:20

The Biore one is fab! I order from Amazon too

Sushiroller · 21/01/2020 19:23

Hated heliocare it felt awful on my skin.
Love love LOVE biore

morrisseysquif · 21/01/2020 19:45

I use Total Effects from Olay, SPF 30, doesn't block pores.

CarollaKerala · 26/01/2020 07:53

For those of you who wear make up, do you reapply the Biore during the day or just use at the start? I would like to find one I could ‘dab’ over my makeup during the day without messing it up too much!

Buggedandconfused · 26/01/2020 08:16

If my face was going to be in direct sunlight or on holiday, yes I would reapply a bit. Sometimes when I’m driving if it’s sunny I will. I’ve also used SPF translucent face powder in the past which is good. I used the Jane Iredale one. I only use retinol in the winter though, not in the summer.
