Balayage

Hi ladies
Hoping somebody can help! I had balayage on my hair yesterday and it cost me a small fortune! I have dark black roots and these were dyed too. The colourist told me that when I need to dye my roots again in 6-8 weeks to hold my hair up so that the dye doesn't run and ruin the balayage, or the alternative is to go and have it done at the salon again! I don't want to go back so soon as I can't afford it so was wondering if any body has any tips of how I can stop the root colouring ruining my blonde balayage ??? I Thank you xx

IME the only way is to go back to the salon. There is a small comfort in the fact that a root ting is cheaper than highlights & you can get about 4 root tints in between the full colour job.

I would be too scared to do anything at home - sorry not to be more helpful.

Your future regrowth will ruin the current look as you’ll have black regrowth, then (I assume) brown lengths and your blonde highlights. The regrowth wouldn’t blend in and would leave a demarcation line.

In the future, you can ask for your natural black colour to be the base colour instead so you don’t have to worry about regrowth. (This is how a balayage is supposed to be anyway, it’s not supposed to be a full head colour but highlights on your natural colour.) However this will darken your look and make it look highly contrasted as blonde doesn’t blend into black very well.

Also bare in mind if your hair is naturally black, that your blonde ends will turn brassy faster. It won’t stay as super light as it looks when freshly done. So might want to go back and get a toner refresh in 2 months anyway, where you could get your roots tinted too?

Or alternatively, you can get your black natural colour painted back on so you dint have to worry about regrowth.

I would wait 2 months, see what your hair looks like and take it from there.

I’d just go back to the salon for roots, don’t bother getting it blow dried or anything - just a quick blast to get the drips off. It only costs me about £15 to do that in between colours.
