Bare down there......

I am increasingly seeing articles about how women should wear their pubic hair, Brazilian, Hollywood etc etc and indicating that this is what most women do....then they cite that they got this information from asking beauty therapists....so a but skewed in my view.
As a mum to a daughter I don't want her growing up believing that us women should get rid of any hair basically below our eyebrows.....
Am I the only one wondering about the impact of these articles and pressure on our growing children?

I shave as I fine oral feels better when I'm bare.

Also find that I find the crotch of skinny jeans more comfortable when I've shaved than when I grow it out.

I also prefer being bare during my period as it's easier to stay clean that way.

I do it for me - I sometimes grow it out but bare is my preference. I dont feel shame in having pubic hair.

Always hate it when people start assuming that anyone who shaves/waxes is doing it purely due to capitalism/patriarchal standards - my reasons are purely pragmatic according to my own preferences.

I'm saying that the cultural messages we receive, like the things we hear about women who don't conform, do affect what we see our choices as being. No one should be shamed for their choices but equally we need to be able to discuss the factors that affect those decisions because that is also important

Oh I am in 100% agreement with you on this!

I'm not naive enough to think my choices havent been shaped by the society in which I live.

What DOES piss me off though is this bizarre "I dont shave because I am not brainwashed by the patriarchy" thing. I mean, ok- congrats! but you still wear makeup and shave your pits and legs and dye your hair and spend money on slimming products and high heels and padded bras so you ARE still influenced aren't you?!! It comes across as a brag that: "I'm not like those other silly women! I'm better than them because I have a full bush and therefore I'm a better feminist"

Thats what I object to. You aren't a "better" feminist than anyone else because you have hair FFS! Its yet another way for women to drag other women down, which ironically, in itself is a way for the patriarchy to "control" women!

As a 40+ Female and hair free for personal reasons, not another’s choices, there is no way l am going to resemble a child. Nor is my vulva or hips child shape. Neither do adult men who shave their faces look like boys!

But I do remember what it was like as a teenager being teased because a few stray hairs had crept out from a cosie while poolside.

Just like the clothes we choose to wear and the style we come out of the hairdresser with, it’s personal choice. Of course we are influenced in style. So what! Otherwise I would still be complaining my corset was killing me.

Pubic removal went on in ancient Roman bathhouses. No internet porn influence there.

Finally @beautifulstranger101 you are so spot on Flowers, will you marry me? It’s legal now. Smile

To add, I don’t wear heels, but l would not criticise those who do, neither would I tell a daughter that it is wrong to.

That's fine if you choose to, it's just annoying that some of us feel pressured to use a razor blade/hot wax/scissors when we may not want to and/or being seen as dirty or unattractive

For people with thick/dark hair the bald look is not even achievable, it lasts about half an hour before it grows back. It's fine if you want to do all that but it shouldn't be the standard

I'm 60 and have no body hair. Armpits never grew,, my legs are lasered and I have regular Hollywoods which I have had for 25 years. Personal choice. I don't like body hair. And as someone up thread said, I prefer it for oral sex.
And I do not resemble some paedophile's fantasy.

I haven't seen any articles and as my daughter (14) doesn't do social media she hasn't either. I think kids have more access to porn because of the internet which had normalised removing hair, but no one has never said anything negative to me and I do nothing other than shave my underarms and occasionally legs.
