How to get these curls/waves?

I have a barrel curled, straighteners, a wand curler and a waver and I cannot produce this look which I love.
I end up with a frizzy mess or an 80’s perm!
Can anyone tell me where I’m going wrong or recommend yet another gadget to help me Smile

No advice but following! I also love this look but when I try and achieve it I always look like a poodle!

puffylovett · 17/01/2020 22:50

Following! The closest I’ve got is with straighteners but it’s taken me ages to learn.

rainbowlou · 17/01/2020 22:53

My straighteners make a weird kink in my hair!
I end up looking like poochie 😂

Straighteners, curling the sections in alternate directions and stopping about 2" before the end. Let cool then shake out/comb with fingers

LaurieFairyCake · 17/01/2020 23:06

Wand curler - wrap round wand (not last 2 inches) and then fluff through hair until it's dropped to the picture

Then spray it like fuck

Boogbuster · 17/01/2020 23:07

My hair naturally has a big of a wave to it but tends to get frizzy if I don't use this product

www.boots.com/wella-shockwaves-curls-and-waves-mousse-200ml-10047551?cm_mmc=bmm-buk-google-ppc--PLAs--(GB:Whoop!)+Shockwaves-_-(GB:Whoop!)+Boots+Shopping+-+Category+-+Beauty+-+Mobile&gclid=EAIaIQobChMImOj8sd-L5wIViZntCh1QvgEEEAQYASABEgLZQvD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds

Worth a try and wont damage your hair like the regular heat from wands ect

rainbowlou · 17/01/2020 23:10

After experimenting tonight with all my ‘curlers’ (Friday night rock and roll!) my wand curler seems to be square shaped rather than round so that’s possibly part of the problem!!
My shoulder length hair may be too short for barrel curlers.
Ok will try products along side!!

Curl with large barreled curling tong held vertically then comb through with wide tooth comb I think. I follow some hairdressers on Instagram who upload videos of themselves doing this look and that's what the do.

PickAChew · 17/01/2020 23:13

What is your hair like wet? You may get better waves with no heat, using curly girl method.

I could never get any lasting curl in my hair with wands as it is very coarse and rszistant. Turns out I have natural ringlets.

rainbowlou · 17/01/2020 23:15

It’s curly when wet but goes really huge when dried naturally so will look into curly girl method too, thank you!

Straighteners! But instead of pulling them down your hair straight, twist them towards you and away from you as you're moving down the hair until you're 2 inches from the bottom. To get a look like in the photo you need to do very small sections at a time and use a tonne of product. There used to be something called Funky Chunky by John Frieda that would work, not sure if they still make it.

How about the babyliss curl secret?
It does shoulder Length hair. It's great!

rainbowlou · 18/01/2020 10:46

Thanks I’ll have a look

Have a look at Waveformers and Curlformers.

Rachelfromfriends1 · 18/01/2020 12:58

I actually think this is easy to achieve.

Hairspray helps to prevent it from dropping out quickly and salt spray will help it look beachy

happytobemrsg · 18/01/2020 12:59

I had my hair like that yesterday. I circled it the night before with a wand, then put it in a ponytail & slept on it

MissSmith1 · 18/01/2020 13:07

Hair used to look like this when a hair cut meant cutting straight round the bottom and then leaving it to dry naturally , without central heating, so it took alooong time.
So 1950s /60 young person (oldies had perms). So funny to see it is now fashionable.

rainbowlou · 23/01/2020 21:44

Mine dries completely poker straight so I need help!😀

Like it’s been blow dried!

Ive just bought Toni and Guy Jumbo barrel curling tongs. My hair is thick and coarse and hard to curl. Experimented a bit last night and they are really good. They are only £20.00
