Eyebrow wax butchered me?

Hi, I got my eyebrows waxed for the first time today. I'm posting here as I'm not sure if this is normal. Obviously I was expecting some discomfort but she's taken a chunk of skin off above my eye? Any ways I can soothe it as it's rather sore? Thank you :)

Ouch!

Probably not much you can put on it without making it more sore! Was it a salon that did this?
I wax my own and have never taken skin off, you poor thing!

lloe7 · 16/01/2020 14:20

Yes it was at a salon. I didn't see it until I had paid and left but when I paid at the counter there were three beauticians there including the lady who did it so they all must have seen it but didn't say anything, so I assumed it might be something that just happens!
Is it easy to do at home?

I’ve been having my eyebrows waxed every few weeks for 18 years and I’ve never had that happen.

It looks very sore and is not normal.
I would be ringing to salon to complain.

noseovertail · 16/01/2020 14:31

oh dear that looks sore, I've had that happen once but not sure if it was too hot wax or brute force of ripping off - say something to the salon though. I have quite sensitive droopy eyelids so now i make sure i tighten my eyelids before she rips off, but in terms of healing, mine was there for about a week and scabbed over, it looked awful! just avoid makeup and keep it clean

whiskeyandice · 16/01/2020 14:42

It happens if the wax is too hot or if you're on certain medication (lymecycline) or use a retinoid cream on your face. She should have asked you for all contraindications like this before performing the treatment.
You can't undo the damage but you can put aloe Vera on it to soothe it and call the salon and let them know. Looks like a little training refresher is needed. You shouldn't be burning/injuring anyone for an eyebrow wax.

XingMing · 16/01/2020 14:44

The same happened to me once, and I've had my eyebrows plucked or threaded ever since to avoid a repetition.

peachypetite · 16/01/2020 14:46

Complain and get your money back

Glitterb · 16/01/2020 16:00

@lloe7 I’ve never had an issue, just buy normal wax strips and cut them down to size instead of buying the face ones.

I would go back to the salon and compain

DragonflyInn · 16/01/2020 17:05

It happened to me once, though a much smaller patch than you. I emailed a photo to the salon and the manager immediately got back to me and sent me a voucher. It was really sore though.

SpongeBobJudgeyPants · 16/01/2020 18:01

Maybe a bit of sudocrem on it?

skiptheskip · 16/01/2020 19:21

They've applied the wax way too low on your eyelid.

Put a bit of sudocreme or aloe Vera on and it'll be fine in a few days - but that skin will always be prone to lifting now.

I'd definitely contact the salon with pictures and complain.

Veterinari · 16/01/2020 19:27

I've had this. The wax has lifted the top later if skin off - it can happen in v delicate areas. I get mine threaded now

Minky35 · 16/01/2020 19:48

Complain, when I was young this happened to me with a bikini wax. The Wax was too hot, and the patch went very weepy. I wasn’t charged as the therapist knew she had messed up, but I hadn’t realised how sore it would get.

8misskitty8 · 16/01/2020 22:45

Complain, sending them that photo. They should at least refund you.

Sudocrem or bepanthan nappy cream will help healing.

SpongeBobJudgeyPants · 17/01/2020 12:19

Advice any use OP? What did you do in the end?

anonacatchat · 19/01/2020 00:30

Do you use retinol / tret / acids in your skincare?

sparkler10 · 19/01/2020 00:35

Stick some aloe vera gel on it and you’ll be fine. I have quite sensitive skin and get mine waxed once a month. Sometimes this happens but the gel fixes it really quickly. It could be the fault of the beautician but equally, it could just be your skin.

everyrosehasathorn · 19/01/2020 00:49

Echoing anonacatchat do you use Tretinoin or other actives? Same thing happened to me 2 weeks after I started using it. I thread mine now or if I have to wax I stop the retinol for a week before waxing.

Ginger153 · 19/01/2020 00:52

I had this after getting mine done for years. The problem was I'd started using a retinol cream - I don't apply it directly to my eyes, but it's clearly rubbed off along the way. Now the beautician uses a different kind of wax. If you use a retinol cream tell them beforehand. Hope it settles quickly

KundaliniRising · 19/01/2020 11:19

Sudocrem can be rather drying, aloe vera or a drop of olive oil would be better.

workffs · 19/01/2020 13:45

Sudocrem is needed here

millymoo1202 · 19/01/2020 22:48

Wax was too hot and put in on too low and not stretched the skin. Have you started on any new medications as rhoacatine for acne as this thins the skin and you can’t wax
