Fabulous long nails due to Berocca?

HouseyNousey · 16/01/2020 13:32

I have just had a very interesting conversation with a lady in my local shop.

She has very long nails - I would say two inches long from base to tip and ALL that length, no shorter ones - and I always assumed they were false. Today I heard her telling someone they were her own. I don't have problems with my own nails as they have always been strong but I know lots of people do have trouble growing strong, long nails, so I asked her about them.

She said she always bit her nails, right up until her 20's - she is in her late 40's now. She used to do a job which meant opening lots of boxes and her nails were ruined. In looking for a solution she decided to try Berocca and her nails became stronger and stronger.

She said she drank it every day for years but it got too expensive so now she has the cheaper version from the supermarket - I don't know what this is but I think she said it was from Sainsburys could be somewhere else though? Apparently it has just the same ingredients, or very similar, as Berocca.

She also said she always protects her nails with gloves when doing housework, gardening, opening boxes or anything that might soften or split her nails.

She also said it makes her hair stronger!

Always good to get the recommendations from 'real' people who've been using the products for years.

I've just done a bit of research.

Apparently the Asda and Tesco versions are the closest matches, ingredient-wise.

Not sure about my nails but my skin is definitely better when I’m drinking Berocca daily.

HouseyNousey · 16/01/2020 14:21

In what way better Minidoofa?

My nail and hair growth has been amazing since I started taking Bassets adult gummy vitamins! My colleagues can’t believe it.

MiniDoofa · 16/01/2020 14:38

Better as in less acne. I’m not sure the science supports it to be honest but it’s definitely the case that when I stop my acne gets worse again.

I have a berocca every day (for 3 years) and have dreadful nails! They snap so easily and never grow to a decent length! I have good skin and hair but had those before starrimg to take berocca.

1 person doesn’t make or break a scientific analysis either way.

I’m a Nutritionist and I can honestly say most of it ends up in the toilet lol. B vitamins may help nail and hair growth if you are deficient already but if you aren’t you’ll just pee it out. That’s why Some people taking berocca end up with orange pee lol

slipperywhensparticus · 16/01/2020 18:55

I used to get orange pee with Berocca I'm not sure it did me any good it didnt do me any harm tho

Juancornetto · 16/01/2020 18:56

My nails are usually dreadful but have been good when I've been taking folic acid ( both when TTC and of)

Juancornetto · 16/01/2020 18:56

Pg not of...

Sparklyring · 16/01/2020 19:24

@numberonecook Is that honestly why your wee is a funny colour after berocca??

numberonecook · 16/01/2020 19:31

Our bodies are bery good at keeping a level of what they need. They have an upper limit to water soluble vitamins. Any excess gets weed out that’s why we need constant supply. Same goes for vitamin c, most people drink lots of orange juice when they have a cold thinking the extra vitamin C is doing them good. It’s good for replacing fluids but the vitamin c goes in the toilet. Fat soluble vitamins get stored by the body and that’s why they are easier to reach toxic levels if we have too many

BodenGate · 16/01/2020 19:33

I spent £££ on berocca and I thought it stopped me getting ill. Then I got very ill and I realised it was just a coincidence and I’d been wasting my money.

Sparklyring · 16/01/2020 20:25

@numberonecook That's really interesting! So are vitamins in tablet form better for you?

Sorry to hijack the thread, just interested!

numberonecook · 17/01/2020 09:34

@Sparklyring if you are deficient then taking berocca or tablets will help to boost vitamins and minerals. This is a good way to stay healthy. However if you are not then they are all a waste of money unless ones that can be stored by the body are directed to take by a medical professional. The best way to get vitamins and minerals is obviously from food with healthy balanced diet. The trouble is people who eat well tend to be the ones who take the supplements but they don’t need them.

Sparklyring · 17/01/2020 12:34

I'm classed as having super low vit D, as its below 30 but I take a separate vit D tablet for that. I do eat well and a balanced diet so probably dont need them. Might give them a miss and see if I feel any different!

Thank you for taking the time to answer my questions 😃

numberonecook · 17/01/2020 13:33

Ah vitamin D is a difficult one to get from food and is best absorbed from the sun. That’s the one supplement we do recommend people in the UK take especially in winter :) get it checked and if it’s low take a supplement :)

numberonecook · 17/01/2020 13:34

Sorry pressed too soon. The best form of vitamin D is made by us when out in the sunshine. We can make it when it’s winter but it’s more difficult.
