Moisturiser for acne prone skin

Recommendations, please!

I’m 33 and have had acne for years. It’s mostly down to a couple of spots with the treatments I use, but the state of my skin is awful. It’s very oily, but dry, with scars and enlarged pores. To make matters worse, I’m beginning to get wrinkles.

I need to start moisturising and using eye cream, but every one I try gives me spots.

Any suggestions? Thanks!

Thanks, everyone! Wish you’d all said the same product ;)

Same OP! Sad

I've tried all sorts of creams over the years at all sorts of crazy prices but I've finally settled on these and they are so cheap! It's incredible! Everything gives me spots but not these:

Nivea Daily Essentials, oil free face cream

Aldi (the supermarket!) Q10 face cream

I swear, it's saved me so much money - and spots! Not sure the wrinkles are budging just yet... Wink

My personal twenty-year investigations into this have led me to the following:

  • La Roche Posay Toleriane - excellent, light, reasonably-priced, soothing
  • La Roche Posay Cicaplast Baume B5 - thicker than the above and absolutely brilliant for any irritation, takes longer to sink in though
  • Weleda Skin Food - thick oily cream that seems to miraculously not irritate or make me greasy, very soothing and smells delicious

Your mileage may vary, obviously!

Totally agree with the above too

Another vote for checking out fungal acne. Had acne for 30 years before I realised and now hardly ever get spots after treating it and using fungal acne-safe products.

Have a read of this simpleskincarescience.com/pityrosporum-folliculitis-treatment-malassezia-cure/

I've read that excess oil can be due to dehydration and stripping your skin of your natural oils causing it to go into overdrive to compensate.

Gentle cleaning is supposed to improve things. DHC cleansing oil is good (you might beef to iar this first to take off sunscreen or makeup and follow with a cleanser), la Roche posay toleriane is good, avene extremely gentle cleanser is good, cerave hydrating cleanser is good. Squalane cleanser from TO is supposed to be good but I haven't used it and I thought it was quite expensive.

Hydrating toner or mineral water spray. Alcohol free, non stripping.

Oil that is similar to skin's sebum - squalane, jojoba.

Moisturiser - I like that CeraVe for face and body. Avene soothing is nice but has mineral oil in it. Lrp cicaplast is more like a soothing cream than a moisturiser. It's great for a final layer at night. Have you tried TO NMF?

Thanks, everyone!
@Apileofballyhoo, I haven’t tried that we their website says Squalane for acne prone skin?

After much research and running everything by COSDNA, I’ve ordered seba med clear face gel and TO Squalane, which I will mix together. To all that suggested La Roche Posay, I’m too nervous to try any of their products after the awful reaction I had to the effacalar (sp).

I’ve now decided that the Proactiv is probably way too harsh for my skin (it’s made for teenage skin) so am going to slowly swap out one product at a time, starting with the cleanser. Bioderma Sébium
H2O has good reviews and low on COSDNA for acne, has anyone tried that?

I will then change my proactiv glycolic acid toner to perhaps The Ordinary one.

The one problem I have is that the repairing lotion of Proactiv contains 2.5% benzoyl peroxide, which is the only thing over the years that controls my acne. I can’t find ANY product containing 2.5% in the uk, and only Acnecide, which is 5%. Does anyone know of any? I know my skin won’t be ready to give up the benzoyl peroxide in a while, and don’t want to trigger a massive outbreak.

Thanks again for your help, I looked into each any every product

Costs alot but it's literally the only moisturizer that doesn't make me break out and I've tried loads. It's Estée Lauder revitalising supreme Light. It has to be the light one! Don't get the normal one. It lasts absolutely ages as a little goes a long way. It also makes my pores look smaller and foundation goes on so nicely on top.

Oh naff off with your spam.

Diet won’t help bacterial infections 🙄 no one recommends diets if you get any other infections.

La Roche posay effaclar duo is great for oily skin

Changemaname1 · 29/06/2021 11:32

Hey op as a pp said the oily-ness And large pores could be that your skin is dehydrated which is probably from your benzoyl peroxide

I know you say you are almost on top of your acne and didn’t like roacutaine but would you consider a topical retinoid?

I use an online prescription service with a company called dermatica they will advise you what is best for your skin and likely start you on a low strength prescription retinol which would address all your above concerns

My skin is better than it’s ever been but it does take a while to work and you have to be really on it with spf , in terms of moisturiser another vote for cerave , I also put a hylauranic acid serum on Under it

If your look on skincare addiction or 3plus skincare groups on Reddit they have amazing advice on all this sort of thing
