Quickest way to get rid of hormonal spots?!

Macandcheeseplease · 11/01/2020 22:52

36 and every few weeks I get the worst spots on my chin. Ones that start off as little red bumps then turn into a whitehead, which I end of squeezing because it's so hideous. Which then scabs over or looks even worse, and takes ages to go back to normal.

I've got one coming just now. Felt the bump today. Have an important work meeting on Tuesday and could really do without a monstrosity on my chin. I feel like a 14 year old schoolgirl.

Tried and tested tips to get this spot away? Have applied a cheap tea tree gel tonight but any other miracle cures welcome...!!

Post it as a thread in in Sporners Corner on MN - it's full of good advice in this very area.

StandUpStraight · 11/01/2020 23:09

Spot plasters are my new discovery for this sort of thing. I have these ones. www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B07KN24TQM/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_tai_7vLgEbFN9K0GT?tag=mumsnetforu03-21

Apparently you can put makeup over them but I’ve not tried that. Just used them at night and they have really helped.

Macandcheeseplease · 11/01/2020 23:16

@msmith501just had a (very) quick look at sporner corner. Not sure if that's the group for me....!

@StandUpStraight I actually bought a pack of Zitstickas but the first time i used one I swear it made my spot worse and it took longer to go. Interesting you've found the stickers effective. All the reviews online were really positive too so wonder if I applied mine wrong in some way??

Murad rapid relief spot treatment.
Really does help shift spots.
£20 but I managed to buy on offer for £10 on amazon

Mrstwiddle · 12/01/2020 05:35

To prevent them in future, start drinking a cup or tea of spearmint tea a day, I’ve found that one of the few things to be effective.

Mrstwiddle · 12/01/2020 05:35

Cup or two

npowerarebastards · 12/01/2020 05:58

I find the Clinique anti blemish gel really does work

StandUpStraight · 12/01/2020 08:36

@Macandcheeseplease I just stuck it straight onto clean skin, and tried not to touch the spot the next day. I do sympathise, they absolutely suck. Do you use a salicylic acid toner at all to prevent them? I was using the Paula’s Choice one but it was so expensive, so I switched to the one that Vichy make, and it makes a noticeable difference to the congestion of my skin. It’s this one: www.vichy.co.uk/normaderm-purifying-astringent-lotion

Miseryisabutterfly · 12/01/2020 10:03

Why did I search for sporners corner? Ew!

Op, I’m the same age as you and have the same problem. Following!

AnnaMagnani · 12/01/2020 10:37

Salicylic acid toner is what you want.

The Paula's Choice one is amazing but Vichy Normaderm is great too. Vichy also has a good spot gel for emergencies but I found once I was using salicylic everyday, the spots went completely.

Fluffycloudland77 · 12/01/2020 12:04

Why don’t you see your dr? No matter what the cause pus is coming out of your body.

WelshMoth · 12/01/2020 18:23

I have these every month but I've found that reducing my sugar intake has greatly helped.

TheHumansAreDefinitelyDead · 12/01/2020 18:35

Putting an ice cube against it, for as ling as you can bear, on-off fir about 5-10 mins a day really helps.

The low temperature temporarily stops bacteria from multiplying whilst extra blood flows to the area to help fight bacteria

It also takes away the painful feeling of an emerging spot

TheHumansAreDefinitelyDead · 12/01/2020 18:37

Salycilic acid is also good but causes bleach stains in clothes/sheets Grin

JMAngel1 · 12/01/2020 21:02

Take DIM supplement, eliminate dairy and sugar and drink spearmint tea. Next month you won't get spots.

RhubarbTea · 12/01/2020 21:25

Cut right down on dairy and they will go.

eatsleepmoverepeat · 12/01/2020 22:00

I’ve used the spot patches above and the Zitstickas and I agree the Zitstickas can make things worse. They have microdarts and I’m not sure whether it was my application but it sort of ripped off the top layer of my skin and scabbed which wasn’t the look I was going for. The ones above are different, they have no microdarts and seem to work really well at drawing the gunk out.

You can get rid of hormonal acne without adjusting your hormonal levels. You can't do that topically. See your dr.

I have adult acne and PCOS and use Liz Earle cleanse & polish, pixiglow tonic toner, a hydration serum, Liz Earle moisturiser and differin gel which is prescription only. It all helps but has never completely solved it. In the past I've used topical and oral antibiotics .

BilieEyelash · 12/01/2020 22:18

*can't that should say sorry!
