Has anyone had a colour image consultation?

I’d love to have my colours done as I’m always in black or grey and at 46 I think it’s draining and ageing.
I was thinking of something like a Colour Me Beautiful consultation but they are quite expensive though, I was thinking of using money that I was gifted for Christma but don’t want to be left disappointed and feel I’ve wasted the money.
Is it worth it?

I had a House of Colour consultation last year. I wished I’d had it sooner as I would have saved several times the consultation cost in purchases that didn’t really suit me. It has also allowed me to shop online much more effectively as I know what colours to look for and can filter out what doesn’t suit from the outset.

CaptainMyCaptain · 10/01/2020 19:31

I had one years ago and it changed my buying habits cometely. It also taught me to combine things I already had and I had a lot of complements.

BlueCowWonders · 10/01/2020 19:35

Ive had one and it makes life much easier- faster shopping etc
I was never someone who shied away from colour, but it made my choices more focused. And probably more important as i get older as younger people can often look good no matter what!

Would really recommend this site:

Styled by susie

Not sure how much Colour me Beautiful is, but I these these prices are reasonable.

CoffeeConnoiseur · 10/01/2020 19:53

House of Colour quite a few years ago. Pretty sure I only paid £99.

I already knew which colours suited me but it confirmed it, gave me a whole load more colours that I never would have considered, and made me finally ditch all the black in my wardrobe.

I can shop quite quickly now because I can discount whole rails of stuff just based on colour alone.

SpeckledyHen · 10/01/2020 20:01

Another recommendation for House Of Colour . It will be the best money you ever spend on yourself and you will save a fortune in future by not making any mistakes.

SpeckledyHen · 10/01/2020 20:02

Not so long ago there use to be a group of posters that worked for some colour/style company on the s&b board? I can not remember their names, are they still around? If so they might be able to help you.

I did House of Colour years ago and as others have said, fantastic value for money in the long term.
I went onto do the style class and that broadened my horizons so much.

RhodaCamel · 10/01/2020 20:46

Thanks everyone, that’s great.
SpeckledyHen I’m in Essex.

Ah thanks OP . A bit too far to go to a lovely HoC lady in Oxfordshire .

RhodaCamel · 10/01/2020 21:03

I’ve had a look on the HoC website but unfortunately there are no consultants near to me which is disappointing.

I had a colour analysis with House of Colour and thought it was a waste of money. My consultant was a bit rubbish though

Have a look on these two sites

SpeckledyHen · 11/01/2020 07:13

It is worth travelling a bit for OP . Mine is an hours country drive away which is no more than going to work .

Well after all Essex does have its own style Grin

Miniloso · 11/01/2020 07:35

I had house of colour, was good but mainly for showing me whether I suited warm (yellow based) or cool (blue based tones) - you can save money by figuring this out yourself by looking at your veins. If they are green, you have warm toned skin, if they are blue then you have cool tones. Most colours in your warm or cool tone range will suit you!

Honestly, save your money and with a bit of playing with clothes in the shops you’ll soon get the hang of it!

Lemonsaretheonlyfruit · 11/01/2020 07:38

Have a look on Groupon OP.

bohemia14 · 11/01/2020 07:59

I had a House of Colour consultation a few years ago. I went with a friend and we had a really enjoyable day. It was about £100 and really worth the money.

RhodaCamel · 11/01/2020 10:38

Thanks for the links everyone.
TheStuffedPenguin you’re right, maybe I’ll just stick to my Uber tan and white stilettos 😆

I think it really depends on who you see as to whether it is worth it. I am slightly obsessed and have been put as three different types/seasons (HoC seasons has equivalents in the CMB system). But I feel happy with the last one... Don't know about Essex people though, sorry!

FerryWoman · 11/01/2020 12:40

The inconsistencies bother me too @bleughhh but glad you were happy with your final result.

Also although people are given a sub-season for their wow colours, people are still supposed to wear all the colours in the season.

I wonder how many consultants post in here. Technically they would have had draping too.

Unmentionablesandfluff · 11/01/2020 16:53

I had a Styled By Susie consultation, but was underwhelmed. I got six poorly put together PDFs along with a colour scheme but the image of the colours had been repeatedly screen grabbed so the colours resolution was unusable. I wouldn’t recommend Styled by Susie.

Candleabra · 11/01/2020 17:00

I had a HOC analysis a few years ago. It was great, helped me loads. £99 for a full day. However, I believe the prices have gone up a lot since then, and they've cut back on the quality of the helpful handouts at the end (eg colour swatches no longer fabric, just printed on paper). It would be useful to hear from someone who's been more recently to see whether it's still value for money.

Lumene · 11/01/2020 18:06

I have and recommend it but it does depend on the consultant. I wouldn’t recommend doing it via Styled by Susie - it might be ok for a rough guess but you need to see someone in the flesh with proper lighting and draping to be sure.
