Can you help me find slightly quirky stuff for 12yo DD?

That really.

She is 12 in a fortnight and like things which are a bit different. She is generally a jeans girl and is really into manga, anime, Gorjuss, cats and stuff which is maybe a little bit quirky. Really not into the whole unicorns/mermaids type thing. Her idea of hell would be an H&M cropped pink sweat with something like ‘BROOKLYN’ in the front. She saw this hoodie (on the girl in worzel gummidge, randomly) but it’s sold out (she’s very tall and probably an adult size 10). The other hoodies by that brand (Banned Clothing) are a bit more goth and not as cutesy. She liked the sugar skull cat and the ears.

SHEIN has tons of stuff with cat ears and cats but the quality and reviews and washability is very mixed.

Doesn’t have to be a hoodie - Could be tops/sweats/joggers/even dresses but just something a bit different and practical for everyday wear.

Thank you!

Try EMP. clothing

SayOohLaLa · 10/01/2020 10:35

Have a look on Red Bubble. They host designs for independent artists, so you can get bags, t-shirts, cards etc. made up according to your preferred image.

Spartonian · 10/01/2020 10:39

I came on to say EMP too

Also search Manga on Amazon and eBay, you may have to wait longer for postage but there are some nice items.

You could also try Joe Browns, they have different styles.

JamieFraserskneewarmer · 10/01/2020 10:39

Have you tried TeeRepublic? I have used them a number of times for things that are a bit different and the quality is good

Nomorewineever · 10/01/2020 10:46

Thank you all. EMP looks good and they’ve got some Harry Potter stuff too (another like). I’d rather get one decent one than a couple of cheapies.

I did think of joe browns but maybe a bit grown up?

Will go and look at red bubble and tee republic!

Damaged society might have some good stuff online.

Why don’t you let her choose herself? I wouldn’t dream of buying clothes for my DD14. Don’t say quirky it’s really naff 🙄

Nomorewineever · 10/01/2020 11:26

I did let her choose JKScot4, she chose the one which is now out of stock.

Apologies for using the work quirky. My 1:1 English Language degree was obviously wasted.

I wasn’t asking for opinions on whether I should be ‘dressing’ my 11 about to turn 12 year old daughter, or on my vocabulary range, I was just trying to see if anyone had any sellers or stores they could recommend.

@Miseryisabutterfly I think that is an excellent alternative, thank you so much.

I’ve had a few sweatshirts from Shein and they have all been great and washed really well.

frugalkitty · 10/01/2020 12:46

My DD likes quirky too. She's a couple of years older than yours. Primark often have Harry Potter stuff, worth keeping an eye out. I was also thinking Joe Browns. Glad you had some suggestions, I'll be having a look too.

Nomorewineever · 10/01/2020 12:50

Thank you everyone.

By chance I’d emailed a seller who did have a couple of the desired hoodie left but only in much larger sizes. Kindly they got back to me saying they’d contacted Banned and Banned had found one remaining smaller size which I can have. DD will be overjoyed as she is aware it was sold out and was disappointed, so I’ll buy it on the quiet and she can have it as a happy surprise.

I do still really like the other cat one Butterfly posted though too!

Try Emily Strange (on Ebay or Blue Banana).

Kenworthington · 10/01/2020 14:22

Came on to say blue Banana

Myshitisreal · 11/01/2020 00:09

What about these assuming she likes Jack Skellington 🤔😁 www.emp.co.uk/p/jack-skellington-%26-oogie-boogie/388324.html

RJnomore1 · 11/01/2020 00:23

Might be worth a look at the disturbia clothing website?

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 11/01/2020 00:24

Also look at Hell Bunny. They have alternative stuff. Some of it is older, but they have younger designs too.

I had a wry smile at your degree comment because another poster was relentlessly ribbed for saying the same on another recent thread.

FWIW I know exactly what you mean, she's not a conformer to the popular trends, quirky isn't that bad a description I don't think, but I would use alternative.

YippyKayakOtherBuckets · 11/01/2020 01:55

I'm glad you managed to find one!

Here is similar and the website has lots of cute alternative stuff that might be appropriate for her.

JoyceDivision · 11/01/2020 02:11

Schuh has.nightmare before Christmas vans in the sale with big discounts!

chezbot · 11/01/2020 12:21

Another one here to suggest EMP, Damaged Society, Hell Bunny and Lazy Oaf. My 15yo DD 's wardrobe is heaving with their stuff.
