Keratin or balayage first?

I have very thick coarse wire like hair which has been recently tamed by a keratin treatment. I’m thinking I’d like to go lighter at the ends but should I do this before or after my next keratin treatment? Would the bleaching ruin the affect of the keratin? At the same time would the keratin make the colour change/go too brassy?
I’m a natural dark red/auburn and the keratin made my colour more copper this time (in a good way I hope) but worried it might mess it up?

I would say balayage first as the keratin would be a sealant. As for going orange, bleach will turn the hair orange toned after multiple washes anyway as it the toner is washed away so get a good purple shampoo and use every few washes to keep a cool tone. The Bleach London is my favourite

You can do it in either order as long as you wait a few weeks in between.

I agree that it makes more sense to get the keratin treatment second, whilst the colour shouldn’t affect it I would be paranoid that the bleach would make the treatment fade faster.

Your hair colour will look slightly different after the keratin treatment. It made my highlights stand out more but I feel like my hair eventually turned brassy faster.

Thanks for the advice. Is the purple shampoo sulphate free? Is it ok to use after a keratin treatment?

I have both. I get my cut and colour done then wait at least two weeks before the keratin treatment.
Hask and Kevin Murphy purple shampoos are sulphate free.
However, a decent hair stylist should speak to you about all of these questions and if they thought there would be a problem, wouldn’t do it. But, it’s fine, there isn’t a problem doing both treatments as long as you leave a few weeks in between.

Yes, colour first, wait a couple of weeks, then keratin. That's what I do.

ViserionTheDragon · 08/01/2020 20:54

Don't use Bleach London purple shampoo after your keratin treatment, it contains SLS! Use a sulphate free purple shampoo instead.

applepineapple · 08/01/2020 20:55

Apologies OP, I didn't know that you can't use SLA with a keratin treatment! (Files away for future knowledge Grin)

Colour first, then keratin. I just had that done before Xmas. If in doubt, have a chat with your hairdresser.

Those who’ve done it is your hair not like straw ? Mine was snapping off but i didn’t know if I’d had a bad experience

Rachelfromfriends1 · 09/01/2020 11:03

The keratin didn’t cause my hair to snap at all, if anything it weighed it down and made it look flat/greasy - but certainly didn’t cause dryness/damage. However many different highlight/bleach sessions has caused my hair to snap.

LizandFlo · 09/01/2020 11:29

Like straw - No, quite the opposite actually. Mine is never as soft or sleek as when I’ve had the treatment done. It smooths down all of the flyaways, stays in style all day and calms it all down. I think you may have unfortunately had a bad experience.

My keratin treatment has transformed it. Has made it beautiful swishy and shiny. It’s like a different person’s hair. I’m in love with it. This is my first go though and I don’t know if it damages it with multiple uses.
