Ash blonde highlights - how to acheive

Please can you help? i have had blonde highligts (three tints) for many years but now want to move to a more ash blonde ie a cooler colour. My hairdresser is adamant I only need bleach highlights to acheive this effect but I am going grey and surelly i need a mix of tints to get the ash but to keep some blonde in it?

If there are any hairdressers on here, grateful for your input too!

You'll need an ashy toner on top of the highlights if they naturally lift too warm (they normally do). Not a hairdresser though!

Visit another salon and ask for a colour consultation. Take photos of the kind of thing you want to achieve. Listen and ask questions. Then decide who to have the colour with . Many People do have colour done in a different place from a cut

Your hairdresser might be right, it depends on your hair tone.
I have blonde highlights, two colours and one of them bleach. My hairdresser always comments on how ashy they look on me compared to others who have the exact same highlight blend. She says it’s my natural hair colour reaction.

I have bleach highlights only never had a toner done, mine come out quite ashy, if they start to look a bit golden I use purple shampoo.

Bleach London shampoo and conditioner are great.

I have to have bleach highlights and a toner as well because otherwise it goes strawberry blonde. And use a purple shampoo once a week - I think it's Osmo No Yellow shampoo.

It's the new one loreal elvive, I also use fanola no yellow.

I have had some great advice and recommendations on here so thank you all.

I took Soover's advice and went for a colour consultation today at a different salon. The co-owner of the salon, who specialises in colour, said the colour looked good and suited my skin tone but suggested possibly using a mix of bleach and a tint for the highlights to add a bit of the warmth that I was worried was missing. Perhaps it was the shock of going a bit cooler in one go and I need to phase it in.

I have booked in with the new salon for eight weeks time so I will see how they do. Meanwhile, I have some purple shampoo to use and some L'Oreal Smartbond which should help with any potential drying out.

@sofedupofeverything I'm so pleased ! It sounds like they listened and you were able to explain what you wanted and I want photos of the new colour when it's done! Sometimes you need a fresh eye on it. I'm gradually going grey and a change in colourist who understood me was so helpful ( and who also understood that I don't have a celebrity budget)

My hairdresser says she's never seen warmth in hair like mine. I get loads of blue and ash in with the colour I think. It still goes warm.
