Black tie event outfit needed - help

Through work I’ve just been invited to a black tie event. I’ve never been to anything like this before. I literally have nothing to wear and need help. I’ve only got a couple of weeks.
Pretty tight budget but I want to feel glam but comfortable.
I’m late 40s, overweight and can only wear flats due to old injury.
I have a rather large arse and a large tummy too. Large all over really. Very wide thighs and flabby arms . I’m 5’5” and trying to lose some of my 13 stone but realise I’m not going to achieve this in 2 weeks time!
Please help, I’ve no idea where to start. Open to second hand. I’ll never wear this again I’m sure

It's the sakes so look in monsoon and John Lewis. John ,Weiss do FREE personal shopping appointments. You tell them your 'event' and budget and they come up with ideas. It's very good. But Monsoon always reliable. If you can get to an outlet store even more bargains.Do you know your dress size?

Sooverthemill · 08/01/2020 07:25

Or JD Williams sale.

TidaQuel · 08/01/2020 07:31

Thanks sooverthemill- I’ll take a look.
I’m a 16 usually.
Usually I hide in trousers and a baggy top.
Definitely no heels, will probably struggle with a small wedge which makes me think no dresses or skirts.
I’m not probably gonna get a chance to get to a JL as none locally and literally busy this weekend and next. I have a monsoon locally, and Debenhams which I’ll be able to get to for a rummage otherwise it’ll be online.

Sooverthehill's suggestion of seeing a personal style person at John Lewis is a good idea.

What type of clothing do you normally wear? Colours, cut etc?

TidaQuel · 08/01/2020 07:34

Actually I love this style and shape

You may have found it already!

I just lack confidence so struggle

Cross post.

Would a jumpsuit or a womans tuxedo work for you?

KundaliniRising · 08/01/2020 07:38

Op that dress looks amazing, feminine, flowy, very pretty. Flat sandels or shoes would work well with the length. Maybe a silk pashmina or wrap would compliment it also.

okiedokieme · 08/01/2020 07:40

Mine is from bravissimo, I'm a similar size (had to get it shortened as I also hate heels)

TidaQuel · 08/01/2020 07:51

I’ve got a lovely jumpsuit that’s flattering but I wore it for the Christmas party so can’t wear again. Not sure a tux would be right for me.
I like flattering materials. No short tight clothes. I don’t like lacy bits. Understated - although my jumpsuit was glittery and loud!
Plisse material can flatter but can also be quite thin

What do you think of this (in any of the colours). I've little experience when it comes to black tie but I think jumpsuits are ok these days. It would look good with flats.

Sooverthemill · 08/01/2020 09:16

@TidaQuel that's the dress I saw and loved too? JD Williams is behind figleaves so has good stuff for he well endowed usually

BigFatBloomers · 08/01/2020 11:26

I like that dress linked to above very much.
Scarlett & Jo also good and they have a sale on at the mo

Leightonsmommy · 08/01/2020 19:30

I go to a lot of black ties with work... I often buy dresses from simply be - especially their clearance section! Joanna hope, maya curve.

TidaQuel · 08/01/2020 20:56

Thanks for the ideas..... I’m scrolling through. I’ve seen a couple of jumpsuits and still really like the dress. I’ve loads of pashminas in different colours to go with whichever I choose.

I need to think about shoes. I’ve a couple of pairs of dressy shoes but there’s no way I’ll be able to walk in either as they’re too high.

I feeling a bit more positive now. Was dreading trying to find something but you’ve guided me to some great sites - thanks again
