My hairdresser was in a bad mood...

...and cropped my hair really short. I mean, truly short.
My DH said that now I can truly be his best friend.
It sits flat on my head and I look like a bowling ball. Hair type straight but quite a bit of hair.
I have bought a really red lipstick for my face not to look too washed out and I look slightly better.
Tried to put some mousse in to give it some volume but no joy.
What should I do? Which products should I use?
Help!

Put mousse or something volumising at the crown and concentrate on drying it high (or even backcombing). Instantly feminises it, if that's what your concern is.

Possiblynotever · 06/01/2020 08:30

Thanks for the answer! Thought about that but I have a very low forehead ( and a few wrinkles!!!) and I do not look good without a bit of a fringe.
Any mousse that you would suggest?

No real advice except change hairdresser and ask that one for a refund. Hope it grows out quick.

Tell you dh haircuts and biological sex are unrelated!

Kraai · 06/01/2020 09:57

That happened to me (hairdresser upset because a British woman - we were abroad - was being total bitch to him and he was trying to be helpful and polite abd she just didn't stop). I wore a headscarf! Never went back, but I didn't blame him - she really was horrific and English was his third language, so he was making a real effort.

So hair bands, scarves, and you can get away with hats outside at the mo too.

Wig?

WeCameToDance · 06/01/2020 10:31

This has also happened to me. I took hair, skin and nail tablets and bought some headscarfs until it grew a bit. This was December 2018 and I haven't gone to a hairdresser since due to fear of them cutting it too short again. On the plus side It's now bra strap length so it's grown a decent amount.

FlaviaAlbia · 06/01/2020 10:50

I get mine cut very short on purpose and use American Crew Fibre for texture, the powder is also good but dry shampoo works similarly to that and is much cheaper.

If you add lots of texture and spike it up a bit it'll look less short.

Rachelfromfriends1 · 06/01/2020 10:54

Worst case scenario, play around with good quality wigs.

Otherwise just focus on having the best diet and general health possible to facilitate faster regrowth. Nourkrin tablets are pricey but worked for me last year, I took them for 6 months.

Maybe go to a different hair dresser and get your hair slightly shaped a bit more. As this is an accidental super short hair cut, your stylist might not have finessed it and shaped it as nicely as she would have if she was professional/in a good mood and if she intended to cut it this short to begin with. You wouldn’t be taking much length off, it would just be to make it more flattering & sit nicer

Chochito · 06/01/2020 14:07

Maybe like a subtle tanning cream for your face / change your eye make-up? Maybe look on YouTube and Insta if there are any beauty bloggers who have very short hair.

lolaflores · 06/01/2020 14:13

I would go for making your eyes look big and draw attention down to the middle of your face.
I dont think a really bold lip works but smokey eyes and glowing skin might balance out a heavy handed crop.

thesuninsagittarius · 06/01/2020 14:33

OP I feel your pain. This happened to me in October. She wasn't ina bad mood but she just literally cut all my hair off. I usually have it short and spiky but now I had no more than half an inch of hair all over. She had also chopped into it really weirdly and it felt thin and horrible. I was devastated (I know, sounds melodramatic) but I have less than perfect features and I felt so exposed and ugly. My daughter looked at it and said she thought the hairdresser had accidently cut off a big chunk at the back and scalped me to cover it up! Its only now 3 months later that I feel it's a decent length, still short but softer.
I used spiking wax and increased the amount of make up I wore so I didn't look too butch. I am never going to another hairdresser, they don't seem to know what to do with my curly hair and I'm sick of their one size fits all approach.
Your hair will grow, it's horrible when this happens though, I know how you feel.

DarkMutterings · 06/01/2020 14:46

I once had an accidental pixie so I understand your pain!
It's winter, so hats are great. Yes, to upping the make up. And bizarrely I found anything other than stud earrings just looked ridiculous.
Depending how short is short, a clay will help add definition. Can you get it coloured - really chunky high or low lights to add depth? If there's a bit of length I like Percy and Reed products for short hair.
And get it cut regularly especially at the back to make top seem longer.
Pin interest maybe help for ideas - lots of growing out pixies suggestions.

Hi Op I am always impressed with women with v short haircuts, I am a complete chicken and have long hair.
I always think they look v trendy.
Style it out I bet you look amazing.

DontCallMeShitley · 06/01/2020 15:40

Gel spray will help lift it, spray the roots and lift it up until it dries.
