Where shall I get it? I don't wear loads and go for neutrals. Would like a make over and happy to spend alll my vouchers as have not bought make up for years. £100. Don't need skin care, just make up.

SOunds like Bobbi Brown would fit the bill

XenakisCarter · 05/01/2020 10:55

I rate Bobbi Brown too. Consistent products and good advice from sales staff.

Or, think about what you need and google Sali Hughes’ reviews in The Guardian - she is generally considered to be the most truthful and unbiased reviewer. I’ve bought loads of products on her recommendations.

rookiemere · 05/01/2020 11:10

I would rate Bobbi Brown as well. Unfortunately £100 won't get you everything so you need to be a bit circumspect in what you buy there.

I'd recommend getting foundation there and brightening powder is amazing. I've ended up buying things from Bobbi Brown that aren't essential or could be replicated cheaply. If you're starting from scratch you don't need a foundation brush, and they'll push eyebrow products quite heavily as groomed eyebrows make a huge difference but Boots 7 does a great eyebrow pencil.

GColdtimer · 05/01/2020 11:14

Yes I wondered if £100 was a bit light. Happy to add to it. I don't want heavy eyebrows though! Another friend has recommended Charlotte tilbury. Thoughts?

You won't get those horrible caterpillar eyebrows but you'd be amazed how much difference a little but of light eyebrow pencil makes.

StylishMummy · 05/01/2020 11:18

Charlotte Tilbury is VERY expensive for what it is and their main product is shadow palettes, which make Austin Powers look subtle. Great if you're a Kardashian, no so much for Jo Bloggs who wants a simple day-to-day look

GColdtimer · 05/01/2020 11:22

Ok will steer clear of CT and head to Bobbi brown. Thanks.

My personal starting point would be:
Foundation - Double Wear
Mascara -Benefit Rollerlash
The mini matte Urban Decay Naked palette
Eyeliner - Mac Teddy
Lipstick - Mac Velvet Teddy mini
Blusher - Benefit Dandelion (only if you're pa le though)me

You can get a week's sample of Double Wear to see if it suits you. The blusher, mascara and lipstick are all available as minis so you can try them as a mini before buying full size if you like them.A
If you don't usually wear makeup, keep it all simple. e.g. Rather than an eyeshadow palette, maybe just one every day eyeshadow (Mac and Urban Decay would both be able to help you find one).

peachypetite · 05/01/2020 11:26

Charlotte tilbury is so expensive and over rated in my opinion!

UnicornMadeOfPinkGlitter · 05/01/2020 14:36

I finally splurged and brought the Charlotte tilbury pressed powder and whilst it’s fab on my 43yr old skin and gives a great finish it’s already hit pan and I’ve only had it 3/4 weeks using on average 1/2 times a week. So very little product for the money.

I wouldn’t stick to one brand though as different brands good for different items.

Benefit is good for brow products and if you wanted your eyebrows shaping I would recommend booking in with them. Nars is good for foundation and lip products.

GColdtimer · 05/01/2020 20:30

So I bought foundation and brightening powder. A set of eyeshadow pencils and mascara, (selling off Christmas grift sets cheaply so a bargain!), a lipstick and eyeliner. I couldn't face spending £30 on a eyebrow pencil so cheap recommendations for one would be great. I saw what a difference it made. I'm really happy with the products and she showed me how to do day and night make up with the same products. Topped it off with two pairs of shoes in the JL sale and feel I only spent £100 cold hard cash so I'm very happy!

Oh well done OP, I've gone cheap on a lot of things but find it impossible to replicate the Brightening powder elsewhere.
For eyebrows this is great www.boots.com/sale/no7-beautiful-eyebrow-sculpting-pencil-brown-10192560 and currently 25% off so only £6. I've run out so must get one - only downside is it doesn't last too long, but at that price it doesn't need to.

GColdtimer · 05/01/2020 21:56

Oh that looks perfect thank you!
