Is anybody here trained in doing lashes?

I really want to do a lash course and start doing lashes from home to bring in some extra income. I know it's quite a saturated market, but I have an Instagram account with a significant following.

I previously worked as a social media assistant for a similar business, so hope to use my skills to attract clients.

Is there anybody here that has trained to do lashes? Is it worth it and is it difficult? So many questions I have to ask because I really want to make a go of this!

Would appreciate any replies Smile

No but I've considered it and have friends who have. For lashes you can do a 1 day course which I think is sufficient for insurance. (It's not hard. I do my own!) If you go with a brand like Ellebanna I think their specific training is more expensive and longer, but most colleges will do a generic one and you can use any brand. Assuming you mean lifts and tints rather than extensions? The former much more popular than the latter these days. Then you can plough profits into more courses like HD Brow training or microblading etc. I think if you are social media savvy it's a good one to try.

Lash lift and tinting support group on facebook is a good one to join for advice.

I've been having my lashes done for around 8 years now and have used both salons and people working from home, a few friends have also set up business from home doing lashes and beauty too. It's something I've considered training in, as well as hair extensions. What puts me off a bit with lash extensions is that it takes a fair bit of time and practice to become good at it. I reckon it took my friend a good year after training to actually become good. I now get my lashes done by a renowned lady in the lashing community and she's also a trainer. She's always doing extra courses etc to stay on top of her game

Thanks for the replies! It's Classic & Russian lashes that I want to train in.

I really want to do it but I'm so worried that I'm going to be crap at it and I just don't feel confident Sad

i haven’t, but my sister in law does and she makes an absolute bomb! she charges between £40-£60 a set and is booked out pretty much all day every day, with a few tints and waxes in between. her diary is booked up months in advance. she was trained to do nails at first then she did a three day eyelash course. she then offered reduced prices for the first few months to build her portfolio and social media pages.

Ah I see. Do have a look at lift and tint courses, easier and cheaper to set up and more customers for that these days than extensions. You could start doing lifts and tints while you trained in extensions. May I ask why are you are considering it if it's not something you think you'll be good at? Or is it general confidence issues you struggle with? If so then hush the negative mind chatter and give it a shot - the training will show you how adept you are at picking it up.

@sunshineandshowers21 That's amazing. Where did she train? And how long after training until she was getting busy with clients?

it was somewhere in manchester. she just googled eyelash extension training and picked the first one with good reviews. it took around 6 months for her to build a regular client base. she was very active on social media to establish herself. she has a facebook and insta where she shares lots of photos and advertises last minute cancelled bookings, and she ran a few competitions for people who shared her page in the beginning. she did a one day course in brow lamination a few months ago and she’s had a lot of people booking in for that at £25 a go. if you can build a good client base then it’s definitely worth it.

@sunshineandshowers21 I'm in Manchester too so I'll have a look at a course! It definitely sounds worth it

My daughter-in-law 's sister does this and she makes a reasonable income out of it. She gets a lot of repeat customers.

Rachelfromfriends1 · 04/01/2020 22:58

I haven’t done it myself but I’ve noticed several people I know that now do this full time! So the income must be decent enough.

Rachelfromfriends1 · 04/01/2020 22:58

Decent enough to leave their jobs*

My old lash tech is a very driven young woman and enormously successful - even managing to purchase a 2 bed flat in an expensive area in her early 20s.
Her secret so success seems to be :
Chic branding and using this for regular social media posts
Working out of a rented salon room until she could work at home then cutting rental costs
Always getting you to book your next apt at the last one
Being flexible with working hours to accommodate loyal customers - working 7am - 8pm often!
Getting clients to set up a regular direct debit for ease which then ensured repeat custom

MrDarcysMa · 05/01/2020 09:53

She has also upped her prices from 40-55 for a full set over the last few years

Ticklemeelmo · 06/01/2020 08:53

I got lash extensions done continuously for 3 years- as a customer I'd say the market is saturated at either end- very expensive salons and on the other hand people with little experience and bad quality lashes.

Good lash technicians with reasonable prices and lashes that last for weeks are actually like gold dust and get continually booked up months ahead.

On the rare occasions I switched, I looked for a watermarked portfolio of work and ideally master lash qualifications.
